The reigning DJ King (Mk XI) is @Strewth...playing some real music (with guitars and stuff) (Part 1)

i went on a huge soft rock, yacht rock binge the other day from Cobra Kai, loved it.

Yes

It’s totally weird. I hate the music, the plot is so easy to read and corny, it’s cheesy as hell yet I can’'t look away. Magnificent B grade TV and the music is so brilliantly selected even though I hate most of it. Right there in “so good it’s bad” territory.

The missus hates Foreigner 4 too. At least she had the taste to recommend Hot for Teacher which totally rules.

What’s that got to do with Foreigner and/or Foreigner 4?

Nothing at all but it’s cheesy 80s rock that is good whereas Foreigner is hot garbage. We had a discussion about 80s rock and concluded her sister’s rotten soft rock collection was nowhere near as good as pommy acts like The Cure etc at the time. Van Halen stood out as the American rock act of that era but we hated most of the lightweight seppo music at the time.

I would have to agree with that.

When I look back at what I was listening to (and buying) in the 80s, it was largely a mix of Oz Rock and English New Wave (for want of a better term)

I bought a bit of American stuff but not compared to what I mentioned above.

As you well know, I do like my heavy rock/metal and I have always thought that the 80s were the low point for that genre…farking hair metal…really???

BTW it’s my birthday and I’m off me chops. Here’s some good Scottish New Wave from that era:

Happy Birthday mate, hope you’ve had a blinder. Food, wine, music and someone to keep you happy, the only way to go.

You nailed it. My daughter made thet best platter I have ever seen and tasted; she could get a job on the Melbourne Footy Club board. The wine was a spectacular Taylors Cab Sauv and the banter was great. Not too sure about the Jamoriquai.

We’re doing the same. It’s massively cheesy but surely they are trying to go down that path? That’s what makes it. If they were trying to make a serious show then they’ve missed their goal by further than what JD does.

Edit: And happy birthday to ya @hambo.

Happy belated birthday to @hambo

Hair metal wasn’t too bad if you didn’t take it seriously.

Yeah happy birthday @hambo

yes to the song

6-1

And another Yes to spin again.

Belated birthday wishes to Hambo.

But 34 years with your significant other LB, that is quite an achievement.

Thanks @Budge, here is the next song.

Possibly NSFW with one or two of the lyrics. I am playing the version with the lyrics because I think for this song it is needed for full impact.

I can yes this.

And happy birthday @hambo!
