I’ll preface this by saying the following:

We are all here because we all love music. And that’s because music is the greatest. Its the Superior Art Form. The envy of all other forms of human expression. Anyone can talk about music. And everyone does. Paintings dont have that prestige. Nor does dance. Or sculpture…ect ect.

Music is Top Dog.

From kings and queens to theives, hobos and all in between. We love music.

But…(now comes the subjective bit)

The 80s is a gigantic steaming turd of a decade where music production came to die. Drenched in god awful digital reverb, drum machines, chorus pedals and a shift away from The Album to a Collection of Singles.

Its vile. And that list was a salute to it all.

I do not know how to vote here. Two I did not even dare press play because of the band/artist.

But remember, we all love music. Its only the flavours people disagree on.

wow…you must hate modern music then…all that computer generated EDM crap, mass produced modern R & B (what a joke), Boy Bands and “artists” more concerned with their instagram/tik tok following than actually making music

I actually adore modern music. But i pay zero attention to charts or radio.

Theres never been a bettertime to be a music fan. Everything is accessible. And the range has never been better. If you want to be guided by the radio, you may struggle. But there is something for everyone out there.

The simplification and ease of recording has made current day a renaissance for music. A lot of it is hidden out of plain sight unfortunately.

Ok…that’s good…there’s not a lot of “chart followers” in here in case you hadn’t noticed.

And yes, there’s a heap of excellent new music round these days…you just have to know where to look…or get recommendations from people you trust to point in the right direction (Not you @Klawdy :stuck_out_tongue_closed_eyes: )

Poor production values doesn’t mean that they are sht songs though. Some of the most horribly produced 80s crap are actually awesome songs destroyed by the need to meet manufactured “fashion” generated by the A&R managers of the time. The fact that some of the fantastic artists from the 60s and 70s lists put out absolute rubbish in the 80s goes to show how much record companies and fashion destroyed great artists.

Fortunately the best of them could still put on a live show .

Man, I have a general dislike for 80’s music, but this is next level.

Agreed. Musical production can be as fickle as hair cuts. And both can be looked back upon with pure regret.
