Who’s still with me?
I have 12 of these songs in my record collection, so this was friggin hard. I’m going nostalgia trip theme. All these songs I can picture myself in a specific time and place and the people who were there.
5 - Descendents - Good Good Things
4 - RHCP - Magic Johnson
3 - Operation Ivy - Knowledge
2 - REM - Green Grow The Rushes
1 - Fischer Z - Perfect Day
5 - Knowledge - Operation Ivy
4 - Moon Over Marin - Dead Kennedys
3 - Good Good Things - Descendants
2 - Asbestos Lead Asbestos - World Domination Enterprises
1 - Leilani - Hoodoo Gurus
I’ve no doubt given TinHill more votes in there somewhere, but so be it.
This lot sort of sums up the 80’s for me. The top end is great - some of the best punk, metal (should have played Metallica) and oz rock of all time is from this period.
But beyond that top end, it’s all horrible sh*te.
I did, then I pulled it for the crap I ended up playing . Also One would have stood out like dogs balls in this set and surely got votes. Much to the chagrin of some of us.
I was always going to play the track i did, and it was always gonna go the way it has.
It makes me giggle, though, and that’s all that matters.
I’m pretty much the same. I played mine for the 80’s lulz not the votes.
We’re too cool for votes.
Getting votes and winning rounds is for losers.
What’s that? Voted for me? Got votes from me? No, don’t say.
It’s certainly one of those two things
5 votes. Freur - Doot Doot
4 votes. Neneh Cherry - Buffalo Stance
3 votes. INXS - Don’t change
2 votes. Vanity 6 - Nasty Girl
1 votes. Talk Talk - it’s my life
5 votes: Talk Talk - Living In Another World
Great song from one of my favourite albums ever.
4 votes: Models - I Hear Motion
Great misinterpretation of the Superstition riff. From one of the great Aussie albums, and before James Freud got his hooks completely in and ruined them entirely.
3 votes: Talk Talk - It’s My Life
It was good they got some well deserved royalties from No Doubt’s cover, but… geez, their version sucked donkey’s balls. Useless trivia: Their US record company was so disappointed with the Tim Pope-directed video (Mark Hollis looking morose at the zoo and refusing to lip-synch) that they demanded a reshoot. The band’s response? To have themselves green-screen filmed deliberately hamming it up to the n’th degree, with the original video then edited in behind them. It’s utterly crap (it’s on Youtube) and was barely used.
2 votes: Freuer - Doot Doot
I knew that Underworld stemmed from Freuer, but hadn’t ever checked out any of their stuff. Don’t mind this at all. Odd to think that this, Underneath The Radar (the song I originally intended to play this round, but completely forgot about…) and Born Slippy all came from more or less the same minds… There’s only one (perhaps two) DJ here that would’ve played this…
1 vote: Fischer Z - One Perfect Day
This band (well, pretty much one bloke and a bunch of hired hands) did two of my favourite songs of all time (this and So Long) and bugger-all else of interest… I’ve got a couple of their albums and they’re crap.
Honourable Mentions:
World-Domination Enterprises - Asbestos Lead Asbestos
For being the only other song (beyond Doot Doot) that I hadn’t heard.
Leilani - Hoodoo Gurus
Would’ve been in the votes had it been the (far, far superior) album version. The three guitars/no bass early lineup was rightfully short-lived. Only ■■■■ bands have no bass… cough… Black Keys… cough…
Interesting…
5 votes: Song 11 Heart Attack and Vine - Tom Waits
4: Song 3 Asbestos Lead Asbestos - World Domination Enterprises
3: Song 7 I Hear Motion - Models
2: Song 10 Reptile - The Church
1: Song 26 Don’t Give Up - Peter Gabriel
This seems to be falling on deaf ears.
For my song that is.
Sarcasm is noted. Well yeah you’re right… it’s not really, but the song’s were generally quite mainstream. Is it a symptom of the large voting pool?
Nah, there’s something I thought you might pick, but we’ll discuss after the results are in.
5 Song 23 Love My Way - The Psychedelic Furs
4 Song 1 Leilani - Hoodoo Gurus
3 Song 10 Reptile - The Church
2 Song 11 Heart Attack and Vine - Tom Waits
1 Song 9 Redemption Song - Bob Marley & The Wailers
Struggled through this set of songs, all good but not really my bag.
5- U2 very surprised I’m giving this the 5. But it was the only song I was excited to listen too. Hadn’t heard it in a long time and that driving baseline is really good
4- talk talk another world
3- midnight
2- Peter Gabriel
1- smiths.
