I only ever play songs I like - be it normal DJK or BDJ. But…
I very, very rarely play my absolute favourites. I did early days, but realised quickly that I’m too attached to them and it’s not good when the neanderthals (in the nicest possible way…) in here crap all over them and they go down in a screaming ball of fire…
My advice (FWIW…) - Play songs you like, not ones you love…
The ultimate is playing songs you don’t like. I remember getting Goo Goo Dolls through normal DJK, I can’t stand that song. But it was damn satisfying doing it.
Will never understand why a band, who were clearly capable of better (as the songs you picked showed), were content to play (and be marketed as) whiteboy rap-funk.
There are some songs that I won’t play in here and i should have listened to my own advice for my 70s song. I love the Eva Braun - Boomtown Rats track, and I decided to play it and it bombed.
With this track I’ve only recently rediscovered it. A few years ago, my house got robbed and they stole my bike, a few bits of jewellery and my entire music collection - all gone! I have been rebuilding it but some albums are taking longer to reacquire. I’ve recently managed to score ‘Tonic for the Troops’ and I’ve really enjoyed rediscovering the tunes and album flow. But, you heathens have no respect for the Rats, or maybe I should have played Rat Trap?
1 Freur- Doot Doot song 6 refreshing 80s without being a slavish parody
2 Sister Nancy- Bam Bam song 30 reggae that gets you up and about (unlike Redemption Song which had a beautilful clip)
3 the Models- I Hear Motion song 7 may be very familiar to some but a very sleek Aussie confection
4 the Descendents- Good Good Things song 2 quality nervy librarian punk
5 the Church- Reptile song 10 the Church warm up for their Whitesnake support act

I’d always thought the big 80s bands were hair metal, U2 and Dire Straits. Based on Blitzers we would have to add Talk Talk to the pantheon of masters of rock. I look forward to the appropriate cheap KMart Tshirts, newsagency novelty mirrors and tribute acts like “Stalk Stalk” and “Life’s what you fake it”.
Love Kate Bush and the Pixies, while the Smiths might be my second favourite band, but these were all too slow for my DJK tastes. Ever wonder whether Prince made women feel they were being used? His Vanity 6 (the number is said to be a mammalian reference) may be the original vanity project: Vanity 6 - Wikipedia
