The Reigning Dj King (Mk XIII) is @nobody...it's Blonde DJ Time again with @mrjez being at his divisive best (Part 1)

No…by the time I started going to concerts, they were spending most of their time overseas

Just saw the winner… Jez who missed the top 10 and finished 15th in the first round but was given a free shot into the finals by his best mate? Amber Heards witnesses’ have more legitimacy than this result.

Yep, that’s it.

The number of times I did that…somehow, I was the designated ticket buyer and spent many a cold Melbourne morning lining up out in the open at Highpoint waiting for Myers to open so I could race up to the top floor to get tickets.

That’s what best mates do

Anyone who whinges about the inconvenience of the Ticketek site freezing on them clearly never experienced the misery of queueing for 18 hours in the ■■■■■■■ rain out the back of Myer Eastland waiting for 9 am Monday.

No mobile phones to keep you occupied in those days. You just hoped you had enough juice in your Walkman batteries to see you through. If you were really lucky someone near you in the queue would have a boombox.

Ha… I had In Your Eyes short-listed for the soundtrack round…

Yeah, soundtrack round is why it was fresh in my mind

I remember lining up for Dire Straits tickets for the Brothers in Arms tour.

Got to Highpoint about 4am and was 5th or 6th in the queue. Doors opened at 9 and by the time we got to the 4th floor with the ticket office was, I was 3rd in line.

10 concerts at the Sports & Entertainment Centre went on sale and somehow were all sold out by the time I got to the counter…I was farking 3rd in line and didn’t get a ticket…65-70k tickets somehow got sold in about 5 minutes allegedly (saw a number of what looked like Myer staff walking away holding tickets :face_with_symbols_over_mouth:)

So I had to do it all over again a few days later when they put on two more shows at the bowl…managed to get two tickets in the seating area.

Yeah… at one point a mate had a job at Myer. That gave us an “in” for a while, so we didn’t need to queue. There was an unofficial pre-sale time prior to 9 am when the Myer staff and their mates would buy-up big prior to general public sales.

Tell you what boys I reckon we’ve judged 1984 harshly:

Cracking song.

I was never as fan. Just - didn’t hit with me. Not the sax - just the…I dunno. Not my cuppa tea.

1984 was OK. I should have played some Beasts of Bourbon but didn’t think it would go down well.

That is pretty cool.

I reckon every gen has there own version though. We used to probably see 20 bands a week at the Punters or the Tote, Corner, the Club, Evelyn etc etc. So many great venues in close proximity. Lots and lots of great bands, and lots of overseas acts in these sorts of venues. Probably not the same mega band type names though.

Rain (great song) came out in 1983… it predated the album by quite a long time. Magic (another single) predated it by a fair while too…

So it did, so Blitz rules for future reference, what if the single is released the year before the album it was on? In this case single released 1983 but album was 1984.

Blitz rules are “whatever you want to risk”. If someone questioned it it might get negative vibes…

I’d forgotten about this song…and now I’m listening to the album it came from.

They were a damn good band in their day.

As a general rule… if you don’t get caught, don’t tell.

In a previous BDJ comp the theme was live recordings. The application of “live” was fairly… shall we say… loose for a few selections. All it did was lead to more shitposting and people getting called out. It’s all fair game.

If you’d posted a song from 1983, you may have gotten away with it. If it was from 1986 though, you’d definitely be running the gauntlet…
