The Reigning Dj King (Mk XV) is...@chewy_boy...on victory lap number three after another win in Blonde DJ (Part 1)

Jez was next…with a nice final comment that Bakes will love:

@mrjez

Lots of songs I’ve heard countless times, so it really came down to what sounded good today.

5 - XTC - Senses Working Overtime
(Cleverly crafted, great production, no brainer)

4 - Talking Heads - Slippery People
(Nicely done, less obvious, low key dancefloor burner)

3 - Pulp - Common People
(Masterpiece in how you can build and build just around the same simple chords. The full length version from the album might’ve got this higher.)

2 - AC/DC - Kicked In The Teeth
(Gave the set a healthy raw rock injection)

1 - Nick Cave - The Mercy Seat

Like them but just heard them a bit too much: The Beatles, FNM, Blur, Stevie. Apologies.

Great set, geez even Moby didn’t sound too bad amongst it all.

a bit of back and forth with frosty:

@frosty

  1. Moby
  2. Pulp
  3. XTC
  4. Beatles
  5. Nick Cave

I think the few that went for the deeper cuts missed the memo. No way could they compete with some of Britain’s finest, at some of their best moments. Left out Blur for no reason other than to get the Mercy Seat in there as it reminds me of a particular late night after a Thursday at the Lizard Lounge…

I sent a message back to frosty:

I’m going to assume that you mean 5,4,3,2,1 rather than 5,6,7,8,9 as your votes???

@frosty’s response was:

Yes. Moby 5.
Nick cave 1

And then:

5 Moby
4 Pulp
3 XTC
2 Beatles
1 Nick Cave

Appreciate those that played deep cuts. Some were good, but they’re not going to stand up to some of my favourite songs.

5 Miss You
4 Senses Working Overtime
3 Porcelain
2 Common People
1 The Mercy Seat

Timryuken was next…handy rant and Baker’s song was the target for a change :rofl: :rofl: :rofl:

@Timryuken

This was a hard round to vote for. Mostly pretty decent songs but nothing truly unique or spectacular for me. Here goes:

5 Arctic Monkeys - Do I Wanna Know

Great song, great album. Try to avoid giving votes to really mainstream stuff but I really do love this album. Nice selection.

4 Deep Purple - Demons Eye

I really dug this. My Dad is into Deep Purple in a big way. I’ve never really given them a proper chance because they seem a bit stock (I like stuff that’s a bit more out there), plus learning Smoke on the Water from your middle aged music teacher who’d had a hysterectomy made them uncool in my view. Sorry Mrs Palmer.

3 XTC - Senses Working Overtime

I feel like I know this song but it felt like a more novel selection than some. Quite like the slippery bass lines at times. Something a bit different, gets a few votes.

2 Blink 182 - I Miss You

Could just as easily have gotten 5 votes as I love these guys, serious high school nostalgia - my band in year 8 learned a bunch of their songs. None of us got laid regardless. Good times.

1 AC DC - Kicked in the Teeth

Gets a vote as I quite enjoyed it. Get seriously downgraded however because their best track of all time in my opinion (Riff Raff) is on Powerage and would’ve been a superior selection. There’s a live video of Bon being the man live playing Riff Raff, a natural and seriously underrated frontman, what a legend.

I love The Beatles but couldn’t give any votes for that one - reeked of desperation, I’m surprised I didn’t choose it myself.

Song 2 by Blur is possibly the most irritating song in history, including that fucken Las Ketchup song where those semi good looking birds are standing on the tables in some coastal bar filled to the brim with failure and virginity.

Nonetheless had a good time giving the tracks a spin hahaha.

Stan was looking into his crystal ball whilst doing his votes:

@Stan_The_Apprentice

The top 3 were clear, last 2 spots could have gone a number of ways.

5 XTC - Senses Working Overtime
(Simply been too big a part of my life to
not be top)

4 Stevie Wonder - Uptight (Everything’s Alright)
3 Blur - Song 2
2 Gomez - See The World
1 The Beatles - Yesterday

If I was a betting man, I’d put a fiver down on XTC being Baker’s song, and a grand down on Moby being the recipient of his upcoming rant.

@Preliminary_Point2

Tough to rank this

5 Deep Purple - surprised me but I loved that bass
4 Alice Cooper - didn’t even know he was a blues rocker in the mould of the Doors. When did he turn goth, glam album number 10?
3 Moby good leftfeild choice
2 Blur makes sense to give it 2 votes
1 Gomez love the band.
