Anyway, this is my equivalent of receiving a disinfectant hose down after a set of disco:
No genre is immune to cash ins
…except maybe that weird tibetan throat singing. Its never really caught on…
Oh come on, Hangaii is clearly a cash in
Bakes will give minimal approval given that it was their 2nd release.
Just not sure how keen he is (overall) on R.E.M.
They were much better in their original incarnation as Killing Time, when they were more riff-based stoner rock and Chris Paine (original guitarist) was driving them. Lost interest when they changed to Mantissa, signed to a major label and were driven more by the singer and his (alleged) mountainous appetite for horse. Not that he was the only one (allegedly…)
2nd? It literally states No 5 on the cover.
Document their second??? Umm…
Big fan up to and including Green, lost interest by Out of Time and the shitshow that was What’s The Frequency Kenneth and its parent album (not to mention the woeful, dialled-in show they did at Myer Music Bowl in support of it) that killed them off good and proper for me. I can listen to them again now, but it took me a LONG time…
Yeah…I had a senior’s moment ok.
Now let’s all stop picking on the old guy!
On the Steve Hoffman music forums they recently had posters send in their top 40 REM songs and they compiled the 75 submissions into the list below. I’m disappointed by Kenneth being so high:
Document Side 2 Track 2 - sax aplenty!
Their 2nd highest charting single doesn’t even make the top 30. People can be wankers sometimes.
Yeah…it’s sort of like…look at me…I can be more obscure/pretentious than you.
Anyway, my music of choice at the moment is:

And I don’t care one iota if any of you don’t like it ![]()
Monster. Is actually my favourite REM album.
5 - Song 15. Sheila & B Devotion - Spacer.
4 - Song 6. Lizzy Mercier - Fire.
3 - Song 20. Tantra - Hills of Katmandu.
2 - Song 7. Blondie - Heart Of Glass.
1 - Song 2. Bee Gees - You Should Be Dancing.
That was quite a round. Let’s call it interesting. Thanks @swoodley.
Klawds, you of all people would know… what was the early-mid 2000’s Euro-pop club song that sampled the main hook of this and made it the basis of their song?
I’d listen to Shiny Happy People over several of those, and over …Kenneth every day of the week and twice on Sundays…
Is that Everybody Hurts? It was just outside the 30, I think.
But they were voting for the “real REM”, not the pop REM.

Not Shiny Happy People or Everybody Hurts
Stand.
(Of course I may have missed it, and may also have misread the chart thing I was looking at!)
My only question is do you have your hoffman forum screen set to white??
Black and orange all the way.
