Better for TV. Funny enough Gawn came out and said that he finds the Red ball easier to mark.
Exactly. Just like clockwork he makes a big deal about the smallest thing in order to take the focus of himself and his club.
These are professional footballers who handle balls hundreds of times a week, if they canât handle a new ball properly- maybe thatâs on them.
I would love to kick a new ball right into eddies nads
Getâs a âlikeâ mostly for that comment.
I bought a top of the range Sherrin recently. Itâd been donks since I had held one and I found the surface to be almost illogically shiny. Never remembered them being that texture when playing in the 80s. Maybe itâs for TV aesthetics? Then I took it over to the park and it was like kicking a farking bowling ball! Itâs up on the shelf in my study until I work up the nerve to have another crackđ
Always found with new sherrins, they were awful to kick in runners but great to kick in footy boots.
What about handballing?
Never did that, wouldnât know
Much of a muchness I thought - I liked when the ball was newer and harder for marking and handballing, but I donât think it made it any more simple/difficult.
This whole thing is a bit like discussing cricket bats. If you like the feel of one, youâll (generally) play better. If one feels subjectively better, it doesnât make it objectively worse.
Think an ageing boomer in jeans and footy boots at the local park is setting himself up for some sideways looks from other attendeesđ
EXACTLY
I kick a red ball around the park with young Humbertiño a few times a week and we both clunk âem. Stood behind the goals at a VFL game at Sandringham last year and tried marking a shot after it sailed through the goals (pretty sure DJR posted âDoes not miss!â before it even hit my hands). Anyway, it slid straight through my grip like a cake of soap. It might have been slightly wet but the real problem, I realised as I went and picked it up, was that it seemed to be pumped up to a bazillion psi. Hard as a rock. Iâm amazed the players can hang on to spearing passes in the wet - would take seriously good dukes.
For old blokes locking in the park, the balls hardness is the least of your concerns.
Iâd be more worried about calves, hammies and ACLâs
There are so many ways to interpret that post.
And most donât bear thinking about
Bring back the Ross Faulkner.
Best footballs Iâve played with.
Lucky you put âfootâ in there.
My first proper footy as a kid, can still remember the smell of it.
Hurt my feet kicking it as a 6 year old.
Take a Qtr of the Air out then kick the shitt out of it for a Week or 2, and it will be perfect.
Had to do the same when I bought a new one a couple of years ago, It was exactly the same.
Surely though this is a leather quality issue.
I remember Faulknerâs being hard as a brick. I have a cheapo burley one which is hard. Pretty sure the sherrin kangaroo leather (official league) ones are made in aus, but the other varieties are made in sweatshops st least thats how i remember the expose a few years back.
For $140 or whatever they are Iâm scared to kick mine.
