Jake back to take on Wanklin.
I’d happily back Joe or Jake over Tippett or Reid in the ruck. Tippett is nowhere near as good as he should be for his size.
As far as actual ruckwork goes, I’d probably take Joe over Giles.
You don’t need two ruckman, and you really don’t need two ruckman, when both of your key forwards are in the 200cm vicinity.
That’s the best 22 Essendon has named in a long, long time.
Min 18, Max 21
Cloudy. Very high (95%) chance of rain. Possible heavy falls. Winds southeasterly 15 to 25 km/h increasing to 25 to 40 km/h early in the morning then turning southerly 20 to 30 km/h in the early afternoon.
FARK SYDNEY.
Why is Heppell starting on the bench?
Quoted PostGiles isn't even on the emg list so he won't be coming in.Sydney have Pyke as their ruckman with Reid and Tippett pinch-hitting.
We have Belly as main, then Joe/JakeC/Ambrose who can chip in too. No problem.
putting a player in a position, and them being that positional player is a totally different story.
You’re pretty much giving Sydney any ruck constest when Belly isn’t in the ruck, which considering Sydney like to bottle it up so much, is a very big risk to take.
Not the same thing.
Anyone in the 22 is interchangeable, pretty much anyone can come in from the emergencies, but we have to pay a fine to bring in someone outside the emergencies. If Belly fell over between now and Saturday, maybe (very rare but not unprecedented) we pay the fine, but nobody else.

Or his salary
I wouldn’t worry about where the names appear on the sheet. Also starting on the bench doesn’t mean what it used to with interchanges happening every 30 seconds or so.
There was some discussion on one of the panel shows last year about coaches deliberately leaving certain players on the bench for the first bounce, to prevent the taggers get ‘set’ on them and then a quick interchange and your best player finds a bit of space for the 2-3 minutes it takes for the opposition tagger to find him…
Not saying that it will happen but the theory is sound.
Hurley forward Carlisle back…Lol…Hirdy already showing who is boss. Hope Hurls doesn’t start getting injured again, which he always does every couple of games when playing as a forward.
Dempsey might get phased out like Jetta and Davey me thinks with Ashby and Dalglish waiting to take a spot in the back line.

Ha not a chance
Why is Hurley forward…
Finally played some great footy last year and suddenyl thrown forward again.

When Dempsey gets going he is magnificent. He is a brilliant runner, a ferocious tackler . He has been a key in starting quite a number of come backs for us over the last couple of years. Perhaps he is inclined to run off his man too much.
But at 28 are the years catching up with him? He is one player who does need a hitout for several matches in the 2s to get to his peak, after injury etc, as he showed last year.
I’d say Dempsey just isn’t match fit. If he was he would start
Why do people in 2015 still get caught up with where a player has been named on the teamsheet?
The positions named on the teamsheet haven’t been relevant for 20 years and most of the positions on it have been either eliminated or homogenised.

this. Myers is hardly a forward pocket and I don’t think that Cooney will be playing the game off a HBF
If it’s ■■■■■■■ down put Hurls in the guts, just because.
I’d say it was a fitness thing for Dempsey, had the slight injury and with no NAB cup etc I wouldn’t risk him.
I was curious whether we would bring them all in but obviously they felt that keeping Gleeson in rather than rushing Dempsey back was the right call. I can’t say I disagree.
I said earlier this year that guys like Dempsy/Colyer/Howlett/Melksham are in the gun and need to be 100% fit and firing to keep their spot with about 30 guys on the list worthy of selection. Also is unrealistic to think that every player will play 22 games in the modern era. Highly likely that we will try to rotate guys to ensure they play between 18-20 games in the regular season, especially the harder runners. This will be the key to ensuring we are fit for the finals. Chappy and Fletcher probably only play 12-15 games too…

What about when Pyke isn’t in the ruck? They’re looking thin in that department too.
touche I guess.
Think we lose more when one of JD or carlisle is taken out of our forward, compared to Sydneys. but who knows if it works and we get a win then it all works out.

The saga didn’t throw me, I stood staunch & tall & took on all comers that had any bad word to say about James…
… but if he puts Hurley back fwd & hence onto the injury list, & stuffs Buckets around again, … I’m fkn done!
He wont.

Hurls trained with the back 6 during the pre-season. He is part of the defensive unit , but some changes must be expected during games if matchups are not working.
