The Tennis Thread - from Jan 2020 (Part 1)

Generally men make more in sponsorship unless your anna kournikova or maria Sharapova.

What ever happenned to Genie Bouchard, not good enough to get a wild card anymore?

Geez she is miles off the pace, almost time to retire and focus on being a insta celebrity / influencer.

Gael Monfils is 35 years old.
No wonder feels like hes been around for ever

ah the classic Kournikova strategy

What has bouchards situation got to do with any of this? Could say the exact same thing about Kgyrios who would clean up as a twitch streamer if he wanted to.

Or professional men are just light years better tennis players.

A top 100 player is going to wipe the floor with any woman of the same ranking.

It’s not equivalent in ability, speed, power, reaction time.

The mens game routinely gets the crowd on their feet.

It’s a completely different game.

WOW

What a point

Allezzz

Kournikova is still 2 months younger than the Fed. (and retired at 21)

Maybe Bouchard should team up with Ash Barty in doubles…

Kournikova won a couple of doubles slams with Hingis.

And with Renae Stubbs as coach she has the aussie connection plus doubles.

dont watch it if you dont like it.

Please just stop.

well this is taking too long, time to coinflip for who wins this game.

I think height comes into it a bit.
men are generally taller and stronger and can hit with more power through the ball, and their hitting zone is a lot larger.
womens tennis is more like mens tennis from 10-20 years ago where you need to put a lot more spin on the ball as the hitting zone isnt that good.

oh so once again handypoint is trying to argue something they dont really believe in because, you know, reasons.

Seen any games like this current one between Berrertini and Monfils in the woman’s draw? It’s incredible stuff.

So now what you’re doing is attempting to move the argument into the realm of raising that men are simply better players and therefore deserve to be paid more, while completely ignoring the counterpoints myself and others raised in response to your argument.

You do this because the fact that the men’s game is faster and more intense is the easiest cherry to pick at, and the lazy way of attempting to engage in discussion about the fact that the conversation is deeper than that, and actually involves talking about genuine attempts to address huge pay disparities in sport.

If you want to keep resorting to this angle of discussion because you lack the ability to engage in genuine discourse, go ahead - you’re just showing that you have a surface level understanding of the issue.

holy ■■■■ this is completely new ground that wasn’t argued into to next solar system when equal grandslam pay was brought in.,

thats just my point with more words, same amount of condescension tho

Could you imagine if you were trying to get into the court and missing that game. You’d be spewing.

Yeah I get it. If your entertained by the womens game as much you will pay the ticket price(I assume the womens final is the same as the mens) and just as many tune in.

It’s a different product and can be worth the same(or more) in remuneration if it has the audience.

Heck even if the tennis isn’t as fast, long, intense etc(and I love Ash’s tennis, her backhand slice is one of the great shots in tennis at present), if people love it more then pay them even more than the men.

I get more entertained watching the dons play and none of them are getting paid a cool 500k in a final.

But right now I can safely say the best tennis I’ve watched all tournament has happened to be played in the mens singles.

Same with watching Davis Cup and ATP. Maybe it’s just the male perspective.
