The Tennis thread

Very interesting. Hopefully the switch back works for him. I also hope you play well

He's gone back to his old raquet.

I recently bought a new raquet and was toying with going for an oversized head but was advised by the shopkeep that control is a problem with larger heads.

I'm flat out trying to keep the ball in play so control is a priority with me.

Could explain Federer's poor form of late because he's been using the large head for the last 6 months or so.

Invest in a re-string, play with your tension - tensions have more to do with control and power than the size of the head. I am also assuming you bought your racket and are still playing with the stock strings.

Or from a coaching perspective, hit more top spin.

Picked up a Tennis Tutor Prolite ball launcher on Gumtree last week. Brilliant tool. Holds 125 balls.

The previous owners had used it only half a dozen times. They bought it for their son when he was 13 but he was already practicing with men by then so was too advanced for the machine. His parents are moving the family to Melbourne because he's been selected for a Tennis Australia specialised traing programme. He's 15 and the family name is Tranquilly. If he becomes a star I'm going to ebay that Tennis Tutor.

Thanks for the tip but how do I know what my ideal tension is?

As I said play with it... Also consistency is very important.. I haven't changed mine for the past 10 years. Helped by the fact Curnows keep it on record - 53 PSI from memory*.

Higher the tension, 55+ offers more control, lower the tension, 50- increases power.

Talk to the restringer, they should be able to help you more in this area.

*Hope the pressure values are right, 10 years since I actually confirmed over the counter.

Thanks for that. That's very nice of you.

Lleyton won “battled” through and will be playing on next year  haha… I find it hilarious that someone who has achieved so much success for himself and his country could command so little love… Pat Rafter is the last aussie tennis player I ever loved.

The New Idea spreads don't help.

That’s true… Do you lloydy is heading down the same path?

Crazy's boy Jerzy disgraced himself "Martina Hingis' style in his 1st rd routing by the world 56,987th ranked player.

What a disgrace.

He made it through the second round! Yes!!!

Hoorah!

Only caught the tail end of that.

Beating Del Potro in the form he has been in, just WOW.

I love Ley Ley. What a freak!

yep - I reckon he's great.

Band-wagoner.

If you were lucky enough to party with Martina Hingis and doubles partner Daniela Hantuchova after their 2nd round loss at the US Open, would you a) console one at the expense of the other or b ) attempt to console both of them at once?

Women’s tennis doing my head in again. They’ve been playing for over 2 hours and are still only at 2-2 in the third set.

I just want to see Fed at a reasonable hour so I can go outside and enjoy the sunshine.

I'd console M Hingis 1st, then try to get Daniela involved too.

Other way round for me.

It was a close call.
