Totally agree. Screeching, grunting bullshit should be outlawed.

I honestly thought it would have happened by now through complaints and/or drops in viewing numbers, but as it hasn’t, you can only assume that the vast majority don’t mind, or are wiling to put up with it, which, if so, I find completely baffling.

I used to go to the trouble of muting every yelp so I could watch,… now, I just don’t bother. Always celebrate one of the yelpers getting the r’s though, so well done Ash, … great favor to all womens Tennis watchers, & a great win!

I’ll put my hand up. Does not bother me in the slightest, and I find the histrionics from the commentators about it as pathetic.

When Nadal grunts his way through a 5 setter. no one says anything. As soon as a woman grunts commentators have all sorts of hissy fits. Isn’t Maria allowed to put in the same effort as Rafael? Apparently not.

All of the players play a physical game these days the giant racquets and slower courts have meant that massive long rallies and long matches are the norm, yet we expect the players to be silent while pushing themselves so hard?

Do you go to the footy and expect the players to play in silence?

If we all expected everyone to be quiet then why does the majority of issues stem from her? No one minds grunts, and it’s silly to suggest we think players be quiet… it’s the screaming that ranks as hindrance that is the issue. Her screaming or shrieking for a period of 3-5 seconds after a shot that is measured at over 120 decibals, the highest by a huge margin, that is the issue.

And you’re wrong. A fair amount of people comment on Nadal’s grunting and also a fair proportion pick on him for his OCD routine every point to boot. That’s common knowledge. This has nothing to do with sexism. Nadal has a grunt that is based on effort and power in shots and is at worst a consistent tone. It does not shriek or change in tone for every point depending on the state of the game.

Let’s look at Sharapova. Her screams last longer and louder the more desprete or intense her situation, she’s still screaming as her opponent is lining up for a shot. It’s utterly unacceptable. Her screams are not consistent and seems interesting how her screams intensified the closer the match. Also let’s look at the fact that she took an unacceptable 7 minute toilet break to stem the run of Barty games inbetween sets as a tactic to change the momentum… and the fact she’s been caught and suspended for doping. She’s a cheater and will do anything to win.
