The Tennis thread

Great effort by Rafa today and for the year.

I imagine that next year he will target Wimbledon, after the embarrassment of the last two years

Stepanek is the tennis GOAT. Vaidisova hops off Kvitova (quiet hating spotlight Kvitova) hops on. Is there a queue or something?

The diary of Tomic's former hitting partner published in Sunday's and Monday's HS was quite a read. John Tomic is getting into Damir Dokic territory. It doesn't give me much hope of Tomic ever becoming a top 10 player though.

Funny + money = honeys.

So you're none from two?

Hard luck, man.

Yeah, sadly I'm just really, really ridiculously good looking :(

*May not be true.

You should invite that older lady you're fond of over for a meal, then sit down to a classic film noir, then some rub-a-dub.

Or just skip the movie and get straight into the rub-a-dub.

Or if after all that it's still early, put on the movie.

Which older lady would this be?

The older one.

Hingis, Vaidisova and Kvitova (Hingis by the length of the flemington straight) would all have much more money than him. This just adds to the intrigue. Bloke is a bonafide legend and I congratuate him

I'm glad I've decided to go to the first week of Aus Open next year. He might not make it to the weekend!
He played well the other 2 games. So inconsistent this year.

Mrs diggers and I are going to stalk him at the Brisbane International.

I hate you! I so want to go!!!

There's now a good chance I might join in with this stalking :)

Called the B.I. today and the very nice lady was non committal on R Federer playing in the first round. She said they wouldn't know until the day before. Personally find that hard to believe but am now thinking the semis on 3/1/14 might be the way to go.

G Monfils this time. 2nd round.

Stosur wins her second title of the year in Japan. She's had a very inconsistent year and her ranking has dropped from 9 -20.

The Joker beats Dal Potro in a third tie-break to win the Shanghai Masters.

Went early selecting Dal potro ( 2 weeks after Wimbledon ) to win the US Open, and he got beat by Hewitt in the second round.

Still think there is another Grand Slam in Dal Potro.

And a bit of trivia - The youngest man in the men's top 10 is aged 25.

One of the few who can match it with Williams (even if that alone makes her "questionnable"), I would not call her crap. Unfortunately for whatever reason just can't do it mentally, which I think has a lot to do with not being someone who enjoys the spotlight. She also won this tournament without a coach from what I've read.

When I used to play tennis back in the local comp, for a while I had a coach who was a South African junior champion. He couldn't cope, did not get anywhere at all. Hence, all things considered, Stosur has probably done well for herself, and become a multi-millionaire in the process.... Most people do not make it.

Endorse this view.

Stosur is crap.

That means that Reboot agreed with the rest of my post.

Question - Do you think Stosur should miss the Aussie summer ? She can't win a match to save her life. Could it be better for her to start off in Japan in February.

Which is what makes her crap. Has all the physical tools, but the mental strength of a toddler.

You don't fluke a Grand Slam*.

Consistent top ten ranking for several years. Multiple Q/F's, Semis and a few finals.

Stosur can play.

Find the piece by R Laver recently where he described how form can fluctuate on a daily basis the older you get.

*M Bartoli excepted. Seriously, if she even dreamed about the run she got at this year's Wimbledon she would have woke up and slapped herself.
