You aren’t interested in answering my questions about Elon’s dealings. That’s fine, but a discussion thread about a certain subject can’t be all good news angles about rockets and tunnels.
What am I not answering??
Can only end well.
Ya know, if it wasn’t for elon musk, I would not have the internet. No major Australian providers could give two ■■■■■ about regional customers. So I thank him for that. Theyve all made that very clear.
But he is such a fucken swine.
excuse me, but according to trump his name is newscum
Lil Johnny Howard sold Telstra off, which meant most of the lines, copper trenches etc. The reasoning was a private corp would be more efficient and effective. They have been supplying grossly substandard product at inflated prices since and yes, do not give a ■■■■ about regional, are extortionate for the most basic and useless phone and internet products in areas often just a few k’s from major cities. No other company is going to put in the investment when they have to effectively hire Telstra infrastructure.
Starlink is indeed a blessing, a high priced one, and Musk indeed invested in the technology developed by smart folks.
In short, fark John Howard & the LNP, fark Elon, and fark Carlton
If Russia Today is sharing it, I’d strongly suggest that their motivation is more to tear the US apart rather than to inform.
They are purely an information warfare arm of the Russian government.
By all means look into the issue, firefighting budgets are often under pressure and I personally saw some concerningly low manning levels in California, but please use literally any other sauce.
Same goes for you Houli, Russia Today is designed to destroy rather than to inform. Why did they push that specific clip? What is their motivation here and should you trust them to present the full story? Take what they are pushing with a metric tonne of salt and verify through other options before cementing your views on a 1 minute clip curated by an information warfare organisation. And seriously reconsider the information bubble you’re monitoring if they are pushing RT.
And to be clear, I’m not disagreeing with what their fire chief said. I’m not informed enough on that one to present an opinion either way.
Use of the word ‘incriminating’ is clearly deliberate and designed for political blame to divert away from the actual issues
Legitimately stuff they teach in high school
I expect the same people to back unions etc when they say they don’t get enough.
I don’t care what RTs motivation is, I don’t follow any of their content and I am aware they have a pro Putin bias. The content in question is a CNN interview with the fire chief. I’m listening to the fire chiefs own words, not reading someone else’s spin on the interview.
What’s a fire chief’s squabble with a mayor got to do with Musk? The only connections I can make are Musk has inserted himself into the crisis in a damaging fashion with deliberate misinformation, and that the people posting and urging the link seem to be using Russian propaganda outlets and Musk is very chummy with Putin. Yes?
Musk thinks California should do more to prevent fires, fire chiefs interview is supporting that position.
Ah, he has an opinion. He also blamed the fires on DEI and ‘nonsense regulations’. He also wants to dramatically cut funding to public services. His opinions are directly and indirectly affecting the work on the ground. I see the connection. And the Russian propaganda outlet connection. The fire chief wanting more resources (always a thing and will only be exacerbated under DOGE) is the tenuous link to integrity that you and Houli are making for Elon.
The Age
“Qantas has been forced to delay some flights in recent weeks following a warning from the US government about SpaceX rocket debris reentering the Earth’s atmosphere.”
If Elon can help our Peter to yet another populist, right wing victory of lies I can actually see an answer to the nuclear waste question. All he has to do is promise it will all be shot into the already junked void courtesy of Space X. None of it has to happen of course, he just has to say it and it will be disseminated as fact.
He also blamed the fires on DEI and ‘nonsense regulations’.
He didn’t blame the fires on DEI, but more saying the fire departments in LA prioritised DEI over performing their core role saving lives and homes.
He blamed fires on overregulation that prevented creating fire breaks and brush clearing. And bad governance at state and local level that resulted in water shortages.
But in reality even doing those things there still would have been catastrophic fires, hard to defend.
On the positive side he provided free access to wifi and starlink in fire effected areas of Los Angeles
My point of the fire chief video was they were backing up some of Musks claims that more things could have been done to help prevent the fires / save homes - employ more staff, more funding etc.
I reckon it’s pretty normal in any society to want to pin this on someone or a government . but the only thing that hasn’t been mentioned is climate change . these things are going to happen more frequently and get worse so no amount of money or preparation will ever be enough . it’s just too easy to blame it on someone rather than admit the primary cause and bigger picture .
yet we have Neanderthals like trump and Dutton (maybe) in power who deny it’s very existence and we want to drill baby drill. despite these clowns that win popularity elections the world is making progress
Agree Tezza, after a disaster like this it would be amazing if people didn’t think it could have been handled better or more money spent on preparation.
I posted this in the bushfire thread but it is probably worth posting here as well.
And do you attach importance to Musk’s views on subjects which are not his profession? Outside of their propensity to adversely affect the situations? And do you not see a problem with disseminating uninformed and misleading information and extending the reach of propaganda units?
If Russell Brand says there should have been less chickens roaming free and that they caused the fires, is that something worth paying attention to?
