The Weather Thread (not allowed to talk about rain)

Melbourne, too.

Should be in the DQA thread, but does fog make things quieter?

@Heffsgirl could help out on how to live with fogs.
The mantra used to be that from Anzac Day onwards, get the first flight out if you need to go anywhere out of Canberra in the morning.
Fortunately I used to live just below the fog line, could watch the dog practising ice skating techniques on the back deck

Absolute chaos, one Virgin flight from MEL circled for ages and then attempted a landing but now diverted back to MEL and plenty of cancellations. MEL not much better and dealing with a power outage in T1 so no baggage services

That happened to me in 2014. I didn’t end up getting home til 8pm that night as they flew me to Sydney and then home. Long day!

Yes. The moisture content in the air dampens high frequencies. It also tends to be still when it’s foggy so there’s an accompanying lack of windy rustling noises.

Local footy this morning 1 deg.

Could see players in the warm up, then halfway through the first qtr…nothing but boundary line.

Central Reserve Colac - hated the place when I played…(luckily I didn’t go, was just receiving weather updates)

We played a school football game at Albert Park in the late 60s. The fog was so bad that you just couldn’t see more than about 50 metres…not far from the Junction Oval where the famous game between Fitzroy and Carlton a few years later.

It’s very eerie because all sound is quite muted.

Thoughts and prayers with WA blitzers as the mother of storms about to descend ( not going to talk about the rain in Perth yesterday)
@Diggers hope it does not affect your Buddy watching

I was at that game with a friend who supports FC. Ron Barassi was coaching them. We were standing in the Outer and it was impossible to see more than about 10 metres from the fence. The crowd was almost silent because nobody knew what was happening. Every so often the ball would come into the little patch of ground that we could see, and a bunch of players, and then the ball and players would move away and out of sight. I think FC won, but we didn’t even know what the score was because we couldn’t see the scoreboard. I think that for some reason we stuck it out to the end, although there really wasn’t any point. We would have been better off going to a pub.

Had enough water on the Lawn to last 5 years.

Farking stop already!!

Fark its a bit bloody chilly.

Top temperature at Beech Forest yesterday was 5 degrees. Even so, it was a pleasant day; there was no wind and no rain.

What a superb day at the moment in Melbourne. A glorious sunny winter’s day.
