Tippa 5.0

Is Tippa actually that quick?

Did you even look at the first post in this thread?

That‘s a 3-second 35m.

Doesn't impact enough for long enough.

you raise a very interesting point about modern recruiting practices.

guys like Tippa dont impact on games for long enough, hence teams are less likely to look at players of his type. In todays AFL, Dean Rioli would not have been drafted, neither would have Derek Kickett.

My point wis , I dont care how much the modern game has evolved, there is still a place for guys like Tippa who when they do impact on a game, it changes that game.

That first gif is a perfect example of what im talking about.

People see a guy baulk a few dudes and slot one on his non prefered in the classiest of fashion (some people see a guy who ran to far with the pill, lol)

What I see and im sure everyone else will now see also and bask in my infallible genius is a bloke who was able to force a turnover and then had the amazing ability to break through the 5 guys the opposition had behind the ball.

Guys like that win games of football. Just as much as guys who give 120 minutes of grunt work, you need a little spice to your steak or its pretty bland. Modern footy has lost sight of that and its poorer for it.

Is that you Matt?

I said in the VFL thread, but it belongs here.  Watched the Collingwood game on tape last week.  It was a woeful game of footy.  Tippa was a class above.  Every time he got near it things happened.  His cleanness and balance.  So very good.

You can argue about 'not impacting enough' all you like, but I reckon he impacts the game plenty.  Seemed to be working the length of the ground, and when the ball isanywhere near him you know he will affect the contest.  Really reminds me of Dean Rioli.  Balanced, great hands, strong over the ball.  Reckon he would affect clearances if played through the midfield, and think he could easily affect the result of a final with his combination of grunt and class.

That second balk in the GIF. The guys coming from almost behind him.  90% of players on our list wouldn't have seen him.  Vision.

TIPPAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!!!!!!!!!!!

Not often a player sells 2 dummies in one clip.

Speed and flair.

I will keep repeating this.

It’s what all the top clubs have.

Super post. Agree whole heartedly.
I can't begin to express the disappointment I have in seeing sublimely talented footballers (often indigenous, but not always) forced out of the game because coaches and recruiters and leadership groups have sets of rules and guidelines that the ideal player must fit.
It's the safe, sponsor pleasing way, and it's got knobs on it.
Footy clubs need flair, they need characters, and they need personalities. That's what puts bums on seats (who would you pay to go and watch play these days?), and that's what gives you an X Factor that might break a game your way late in the 4th quarter. High Risk can equal high reward.
Shane Warne wouldn't get a game for Victoria these days if he did it all again exactly the same, because they'd crap on about his skin folds.

We could do worse.

Neither should Cyril Rioli, but sometimes you need someone who will do that.

In all seriousness, we lack match winners. I throw the support of Trevor Bix behind this noble recruiting drive.

So we should recruit a drug dealer into 70s fashions?

Oh, that flair, my bad.

And if you look at who they draft, its the type of player they draft.

That's not totally true but the Hawks at least have gone for at least 1-2 really quick blokes every year. Not an all-out speed assault. I just think we've not got the balance right and should've been picking up 1-2 really quick guys per draft, at least since it started looking like Davey/Jetta/Winders were tailing off a few years ago.

agreed, however we have added quick guys over the last few years but what I keep pushing back on is we have not really added guys who are as quick laterally as they are straight line

I'd be stunned if we didn't, considering all that he's done.

Having said that, you don't want to be caught in another Barlow/Hardingham situation.
