Not worth it, because the older members would include guys like Timmy, Simon, Mossy, TD and you young whipper-snippers never saw them.
Love your obscure/cult lists.
Surely Bernie Jones could slot into one of them, though?.
Sandy Roberts loved to call ‘Anton Grbac’ - I reckon he thought he was calling the giant slalom at the Winter Olympics…
From my distant memory of the mid ’50 & early ‘60s no particular order:
Leek; Mitchell; Gill; Epis, Shelton; Clarke; Burgess; Sewell, McKenzie; Fraser, Birt.
Can’t count beyond five and have probably missed a few. I saw Hutchinson play at the end of his career but only saw flashes of brilliances. All the old dears in the crowd loved him though and ‘oohed and ahed’ whenever he touched the ball.

Thought about Bernie, and even Barry Besanko- but they were almost TOO easy to include…
I remember watching Barry Besanko tearing through the middle of the ground at windy hill in the ressies and getting excited about him doing that in the firsts, but his skills just weren’t up to it. Still probably the fastest thing I’ve seen on a footy field.
Paul Van Der Haar
Greg Anderson
Gavin Wanganeen
Damien Hardwick
Kyle Reimers
I can’t list them because I feel like I’m cheating on the ones that miss out.
I was a big fan of Che CC also.
All time greatest. John Coleman, James Hird, ■■■■ Reynolds, Simon Madden, Matthew Loyd.
Hmmm, the first name of a famous Essendon captain coach is blacklisted by Blitz. His surname is Reynolds.
I was at Mossy’s first ever game. It was against Richmond. 1973. I think he took 16 marks. He was bloody awesome. Ironically I think Sheeds kicked the winning goal that day. Three point defeat.
He just happened to coach us to four flags and win three brownlows but we can no longer use his name. So will we have to settle for King Richard
I enjoyed watching Joel play, but I wouldn’t have him in my top 5.
But Atkinson run was exciting!

3 pre-2002 Mark Mercuri
4 Smokin Joe
5 Cale Hooker
Fark anyone that left Essendon.
Willie ■■■■ was my favourite player for all the 7 games he played. Could have been anything.
Think they even made a movie about him.
And a sequel.
