Top 5 U2 songs

Possible not their "Best" but my favourites "

1. Angel of Harlem - One of the first songs I ever wanted to learn on the guitar, very simple yes but LOVE belting it out in the car on a long trip.

2. City of Blinding Lights - Love the Lyrics, the lines of "Oh you look so beautiful tonight" are just awesome and should ALWAYS been sung at high volume whether in the car or otherwise

3. With or Without you - Again, more because of the Lyrics.  Its about drugs or something Ive been told but still good none the less.

4. When Love Comes to Town - Dont know whether it was them or B. B. King that wrote it??

5. All I Want is you - I cant be the only one upset as a 12 year old watching this film clip where the midget missed out on the girl??

Bono wrote it

My favourite two would have to be:

Two Hearts Beat As One
New Years Day

purely because they have awesome thumping remixes on the 12" by Francois Kevorkian.

After that, I think the one-two-three punch to lead off The Joshua Tree is just about the strongest album opening ever:

Where The Streets Have No Name
I Still Haven’t Found What I’m Looking For
Without Or Without You

I am not a fan of U2 by any stretch but my top 5 of their songs are:
Hold Me. Thrill Me. Kiss Me. Kill Me.
Elevation
The Real Thing (agree with the 93 highlights package, probably the thing that really won me over with the song).
One
With or Without You.

I may have forgotten one or two.

Perhaps in my top five most hated songs by anyone, Beautiful Day. HATE! HATE! VOMIT! Not sure exactly why but even hearing it a million times did not work like it did for Unchained Melody (Righteous Brothers?) or The Flame (Cheap Trick?).

I include hold me thrill me in my top 10.
It fused 2 of my very favourite things in the whole wide world at the time, the other one being batman.
If they just could have had them all in the sash it would have been perfec

Nothing post Zooropa

I didn’t mind pop.
The rest has been pap.

Was actually waiting for the top 5 Midnight Oil songs, seems to be plenty of Oils fans here.

  1. Your Blue Room
  2. The Fly
  3. Mysterious Ways
  4. All I Want Is You
  5. The Unforgettable Fire
Nothing post Zooropa War/Under a blood red sky

Couple on Rattle & Hum, … but they aren’t theirs.

If I did a top ten, one after this period might get in., one off Achtung perhaps.

God they went soft after hanging around in America & ripping off the Beatles rooftop schtick* … I suppose Bono becoming a wanker almost instantly after Live Aid didn’t help … maybe it all came unstuck when he lost the mullet…?

I recall saying after getting Unf. Fire and giving it a couple of listens … “Unforgettable Fire??, They seem to have Completely forgotten the Fire full stop” … there was none at all, … so disappointed.

  • Just 2 years later , The Oils were Blasting out US Forces on a New York street, kicking against the ■■■■■■ & giving the finger to American Imperialism, that’s how you introduce yourself I thought, not with some poor imitation of the Fab4, with some softcock notrock song.

Yes, I felt betrayed & it still burns a little, I still have my “Boy” album t shirt on the studio wall, those first albums were fantastic, and by the time they performed songs from them at Red Rocks, they were completely new animals, & even better again.

Saw them 3 nights in a row at The Entertainment centre in 1984, & they were fkn amazing. (That White Flag Tour T is hanging beside the “Boy” one.)

Then came Live Aid, then, a whole heap of uber radio friendly soft rock paff.

Then, they were just yet another band to fall prey to the 3rd album Record Co commercialisation curse.

sigh

Bad.
The Unforgettable Fire
Where the streets
With or without
Every breaking Wave (yeah, a strange choice compared to the others - not to mention 2 decades later! - but i like the melody and pacing).

1 Angel of harlem
2 in a little while
3 Elevation
4 Beautiful Day
5 with or without you

I still think Red Hill Mining town is the greatest “non-single” in their history. Some bands would kill for it and probably launch a career around it- and it is a little-known album track from Joshua Tree.
My favorite song on the album , and a genuinely great vocal.
Also have a soft spot for “Stay (faraway so close)/ " Hold me ,thrill me, Kiss me, Kill me/” Lemon" and “All I want is you”

Just played this track...and you're right, it's a ripper...but then again, it is amidst a superb collection of tracks so that's probably why it's not as widely celebrated.

Discotheque.

Listening to Zooropa from start to finish whilst absolutely blitzed on northern lights is still one of the greatest memories of my youth.
It’s about the only thing I can remember actually.

  1. Where the street have no name other than Jacob Weitering
  2. Sunday ■■■■■■ Jacob Weitering
  3. I still haven’t found Jacob Weitering
  4. One Jacob Weitering
  5. Stuck in a moment and you can’t get out of Jacob Weitering

Is that a ■■■■■■ Hasselhoff on the munch I see

Nothing wrong with a burger after you have had a few

Unless your daughters got a handy cam

1. The Fly

2. Zoo Station

3. Lemon

4. I Will Follow

5. New York

I like the fly, I think they played it while walking out on stage at the only concert I saw them in, so it has the most impact on my memory of them
