Another race, another record for Gout Gout with his easy 200m heat victory, the fastest ever run at an Australian Championships.

On a perfect 30-degree sunny afternoon in Perth, the 17-year-old shut down his race with 40m to go and still clocked 20.21sec with a legal wind of +0.6 metres per second.

wonder if Gout Gout has many overseas meets planned this year?
Running that fast, he will be at the world championships at least.

The plan according to his manager in a podcast a couple of months ago was World Champs 200. But they weren’t going to push him. Focus on 200 internationally for the next couple of years. I can’t remember how many leadups they were planning, but the intent was to give him experience but not throw him straight to the wolves

Next year it’s world juniors, not Comm Games.

That was very interesting! Sounds like he is in good hands. Team Gout Gout must have been delighted with how last weekend transpired. It’s going to be so much fun watching his journey.

He must have very sore big toes with a double case of gout.

Further to this, the next week he broke the world record, but Alekna had already smashed it.

It’s actually pretty sketchy that they create this comp in an open field with a tornado behind them and then create a completely artificial all time top 10 list.

Still, there is no wind rule for discuss, so all within rules, and the discus throwers seem to be pretty happy with their results

Backmarkers race will be the one to watch.

Was always a tough ask. The winner of Gouts heat goes on to win the final in sub 12.

Gout and Kennedy also upstaged in the backmarkers. It’s just the reality of handicap racing

Run of the meet was Rizzo to win the women’s gift off scratch.

Enjoyed the hearty ‘fark’ uttered by the CH7 commentator as a wild rain front interrupted the telecast during the men’s semis.

Dave Culbert finally expressed what Essendon supporters think of him.

There will be a fair few others who get added to that squad too. This is just the first round of selections for those who fulfilled the criteria of competing at the Summer series events or win at Nationals.

Jess Hull, Matt Denny, Nicola Olyslagers and others will be added.
