Track and field

Maybe there is a reason she doesn’t. :face_with_monocle:

Hope I’m not right.

A lot of Americans prefer to focus on the US

She’s not the only one though.

Guys like Ingebritsen race everything then other like Kerr choose to just wait for the big races. and race a lot less.

Bol seems to race a lot.

There is a reason why the African endurance athletes have come back to the field., not that I am creating aspercions on SML. Unfortunately, lots of classy american athletes rarely race in europe.

Gout skipped his pet 200m event to run the 400m and 4x100m relay at the meet, and things almost didn’t go to script. Brisbane Grammar’s Seth Kennedy had earlier broken Gout’s 200m GPS record in a stunning 20.64s, and he pushed the Ipswich star to his full capacity in the one-lap event.

Gout broke his own meet record to win in a personal-best 46.14, just a lunge ahead of Kennedy (46.64), who was also under the old mark.

Going to love next Olympics or maybe even Glasgow Comm Games when this NZ lad and Cam Myers are going head to head in the 1500 m

It’s exciting, but it’s also a big step up to being competitive internationally. Indoors is less deep than outdoors historically (see the multiple US WRs last week), so the top 10 has to be taken a little cautiously (and the super spikes - and probably bicarb - make a massive difference to the point where results from the last 5 years in middle distance aren’t actually comparable to history.

Myers, Ruthe, Lutkenhaus all have a bunch of work to do to reach the next level. History is littered with insane teenagers who peaked at that age and never went faster. But hopefully they all kick on!

Only vaguely related, but how’s the 53yo who ran a 1:56 or something Masters WR for 800 last week at the Vic Milers club meeting. Incredible.

Was a fantastic run. Nuguse and Kessler looked like they were poised and Myers just said “see ya later”.

Caught my eye this.
Still only 18 but Gout recorded the fastest time ever by an Australian aged u20. And third-fastest time by an Australian man over 100m on home soil !

Sheesh ..

So instead of subjecting myself to Essendon last night, I went with the teenaged frosty Jr to the Maurie Plant track meeting at Lakeside. Very good crowd for a cool evening, and generally a good event.

Notes:

Seth O’Donnell is fantastic entertainment. Stuff the pacemaker, I’m just going for it. Led for 2999m of the 3000 before being caught on the line by Jackson Sharp, but great entertainment from the man with the big hair.

Kennedy running 10.03 was very impressive over the 100.

Mens 1500 could have been a massive disappointment with half of the contenders, including everyone’s favourite German 1590 runner, Farken, taken out after 100m, but Myers just smashed everyone and ran the fastest 1500 on Aus soil at 3:30.

Mens 400, Patterson just clearly a class above the Australians.

Women’s 1500 was great. Hollingsworth lifting when challenged by the newly minted world indoor 1500 champion (from a week ago) Georgia Hunter Bell was pretty cool.

Field events were pretty good, including wins from Nina Kennedy in Pole Vault right next to the grandstand, and Olyslagers on countback from a 17yo. I didn’t really catch Matt Denny throwing.

The only real disappointment was the 200 which was set as the biggest even if the night. Hadn’t rained all night beyond a few light drops, but it bucketed down as they were behind the blocks. Eased up slightly for the race, but still. The race was over after 80 as Kennedy just smashed Gout over the first 100, and although Gout came late he never looked a chance until about 190m. Time was slow on a wet track into a headwind, so all in all a bit of a downer.

Overall a good night, with the middle distance and distance being the best entertainment.

Needs to get it down to 9.8 to be at the pointy end.

From the vault - sorry if posted above…

While true, he’s clearly on an improvement trend, and has a World Champs silver to his name already, he’s clearly a high level talent and is performing really well. If his year is aimed at Europe, which it seems to be, 9.96 in April is very very good

We just had two guys run under 20 in the 200.
Gout won with 19.67, legal.

Don’t have a video link, sorry.
