Trade talk - from August 2024

If Petracca is hung up about “brand” then our club’s brand is the pits. A club who never succeeds and the rest of the competition just laughs at, essentially.

Unless he felt he could single handedly elevate this bog average list to glory then it ain’t doing anything for his brand associating it with ours.

Good-Also turning 29yo & not the position on the ground that we need to address the most.

■■■■ Petracca, time to move on. I can’t see many clubs entertaining the trade with the injury concerns and the high costs.

Probably an unpopular opinion but if trac has made it clear that we wants out to a big vic team and the other powerhouse clubs cant get it done i think we are crazy not to throw our hat in the ring.

Its ■■■■■■■ christian petracca a bona fide star. I dont care aobut him being 28 how many draft picks do you need in the draft to luck out to get a player like him. We cant seem to hit them anyways plus we already have the most first round pick players on our list. Maybe a player like him is what our young demographic need to elevate their game to the next level. Another super star to pair and help merret drive standards with leadership an area we are desperately lacking. We are already being gifted extra first rounder in kako.

Parish, 2mp, Shiel I would be including in the deal in a heartbeat.

Doesn’t bother me whatsoever. The last thing we need is to be trading away picks for a 29 year old mid when we are miles off it and need to be focusing on getting quality kids in to actually try and build the foundations of a good team first.

If we were even interested in him it would only further confirm that we have not accepted where we are truly at.

Was just talking from his perspective.

Exactly. Tough calls need to me made on players and if it means finishing bottom 4 for a few years then so be it. Hawks did it and look at them now. Tigers are just starting to do it now. And even though they finished last this season year, they are still closer to a flag than us.

Trac is a great player but doesn’t fit our list need at all. (Well he does but we have other issues with are a bigger concern).
He would demand 2 first round picks and we can’t give that away.
We need to hit the draft in the next two years as much as possible. Free agent pick ups are ok.
If there is a KPF that does come up this year or next then i would be happy to trade a first round pick.

I really hope the only trades we make this off season are trading players OUT to get a better draft position.

Trading for players has ■■■■■■ us over big time. None of them have panned out well and just kept us in this quagmire of mediocrity.

Its time this club actually used their brains and practiced some impulse control, and set us up for the next decade, and cop the pain that may come over a 2-3 year period while we grow.

nah his brand is business interests now. getting a show on sbs food channel, line of pasta sauces at coles, catch the back end of the european summer every year.

footy would become the side hustle. couldn’t be a more perfect fit, really

He could come to Essendon and make healthy food recipes for Andy’s wellness centre customers.

Why would richmond do that when they can have pick 6 (likely end up 7).

We play this league as if its a relegation league tbh

Get Andrew Welsh to give Petracca some advice regarding land investments. His brand will expand exponentially!

Petracca is so desperate to get out of Melbourne, that he’s open to getting to Essendon if we wanted him.

We don’t.

I agree with you that we haven’t been great at trading for players, however, the recipe for success unfortunately is trading ready made players in rather than hitting the draft.

If you look at the last decade of premiership teams, at least a third of each team are players that were traded in.

Our problem is more than the players being traded into the club, it’s the development of the players we draft that’s the bigger issue in my opinion.

No point trading out players to improve our draft hand when we will struggle to develop the draftees or fail to rehabilitate them when they’re injured.
