If you think Massimo is a good defender then I can’t help you! Please don’t try to convince me that Massimo is a better defender than Redman too!
Pick 31 (well, pick 36 after matching etc) just had a damn near BOG performance in a qualifying final.
I’m not fussed as I’m a huge Caddy fan, but Geelong has done really well out of that deal.
Agree, he does the defensive thing well, but he just lacks something. He’s big and can tackle, has decent skills, but I felt like the midfield looked worse when he was in it, made us too slow. He isn’t strong/explosive enough, needs an extra trick.
Felt like we recruited Setterfield before Durham stepped up and showed he can do a similar role, with a lot more to offer.
Mitchell, Adams, Liberatore, Selwood, Rowell, Neale, Zorko, etc. Far more around or smaller than Hobbs than bigger in my view.
Yep, Mannaghs done extremely well, though at 27 you’d think he’s well and truly in his prime.
Makes you wonder what/who else is out there given the current state of our smalls
I guess a large part of it will come down to Caddy vs O’Sullivan, though it didn’t sound like the Cats were ever going to take Caddy anyway.
But you’re missing the important peice there, which is when did Zerk Thatcher (who most knew he was going all year) request a trade? which was on the 12th of September.
Therefore Essendon would have been scoping out Duursma well before mass announced his trade request on the 25th of September, to see if him and port were keen. Basically this and the Martin move meant, the two positions mass can play were being filled, which made him less important.
His defensive issues are similar to houli’s defensive issues at the time, overblown. I saw the behind goals footage from the saints game and it was hind that actually stuffed up on two of them, coz mass handed over to him both times, then hind ran off in the other direction like a headless chook.
He was elite as a small defender in the Richmond vfl, it’s why he got picked up. But he also played wing in under 18s and i think played wing in the vfl on occasions. A player with disposal like that, in a team with horrendous disposal, you find a role for. I agree the three of them would have been good rotating, or even just no duursma and a second rounder would have been handy too.
Scott’s eye for talent is disturbing to say the least, despite me otherwise thinking he is a good coach.
Haven’t read the whole thread, but just wanted an update. Are we a chance at a big fish this year?
Most likely not and TBH it’s not what we need
Needs an all option
I don’t think we’re going to get anywhere here.
I don’t believe our offer to Mass had anything to do with a contracted player at another club who hadn’t even completed a medical (nor requested a trade).
You do, and thats ok. Lets leave it at that.
We both agree it was a stupid decision by the club.
I’m not as big on height as others are here, but I would say Parish is our Neale, Mitchell type.
Hobbs would have had a lot more opportunities this year if Durham didn’t break out.
A contracted Dursma was worth a hell of a lot more than an uncontracted BZT. We’re the ones that fleeced Port
I’ve been hoping that Geelong would finally get a leg up.
The extra first round pick they get from the dogs will be helpful for them too
To Geelong on minimum wage plus three properties in Armstrong Creek.
There’s nothing wrong with the above. In fact when the club got its uncontested game going it looked pretty good.
And we played with a bit of pressure for half a season that would look good in finals.
Agree strongly on the issues up forward and I also think our transition game struggled.
Issues from both ends of the ground more than our mid brigade.
Which is very very good. Its rated highly industry wide too and it stacks up stats wise.
So yeah do not get the total negativity about our footy.
We have a big achilles but pressure wise good
Another decade in contention for these fkn hillbillies
Cotton On’s property interests are not in Armstrong Creek.
Because of one player?
Out Stringer in Smith
Essendon fell asleep at the wheel
