He’s nearly at 50 and yet to turn 21.

If Hobbs got to Richmond he plays every week, not sure at pies, but maybe there too as there other mids can play other roles.

The biggest issue with Parish is he is inside mid or bust. He isn’t a quality kick, lacks leg speed, has a good tank but is not a good defensive player, reminds me of Matt Crouch, he could get 35 touches every week but he won’t be the difference between winning and losing.

The fact we gave him such a long contract when he is not an elite talent is classic Dodoro. For me I would pay some of his contract and try to get an early second rounder, I think he blocks Durham and Tsatas inside mid development and he is on too big a contract to play him in the 2s.

Eddy warned everyone. The Swans have an unbelievable advantage-the league via their academy has ensured the Swans are always a top team and more likely a top 5 team contending for premierships. All this Bloods culture pumping up how good the Swans are - it’s bullshiit, a farking gift from the AFL to ensure they get ratings and bums on seats in NSW to pump up the code and the next TV deal.

Next it’ll be the GC dominating via their academy. It’s complete and utter corruption of an “even” competition to ensure the AFL wins the ratings and beats rugby in QLD and NSW.

Can you imagine if Essendon got gifted 4 players as good as Merrett of course we’d be top 1-2 and contending - the football public would be saying how good our club and culture is.

Geelong has managed to do the same via its off the books lifestyle benefits. Allegedly

all that plus essentially geelongs academy is the geelong falcons in the under 18 comp.
look at how many players have either come through there, or the geelong leagues.

compare that to our academy and where and how it’s run, you have guys like brand, eyre, the kid that lasted a year.

It’s definitely no surprise that the clubs that can essentially start young and train the right type of kids definitely have a leg up.

Yes agree with all of that. However there has been no incentive to invest in academies for Vic clubs. The rules are different and the northern states teams have access to an open pool of players in their zone and bid on their academy players inside the top 40. Essendon can’t do that - but the Swans can invest in their academy knowing they get a free hit at the best players in their State/Zone. Ditto Brisbane and GC. It’s a bloody huge advantage

Hopper & Taranto are both clearance mids.
I understand Prestia is cooked.
Do they really need Hobbs in there as well ?

Unless they have no confidence in Hopper’s body, I doubt he’s a good fit.

Also helps when you look at who got what zones.
The swans gws freo and west coats academies are obvious, but some the ones that get the best advantages of the vic sides are dogs get western vic and hawks get eastern vic and nt and tigers get northern Victoria.
Us on the other hand in pink get Tiwi and the tiniest slither of Melbourne

That’s depressing to see, I wonder how it would have looked before our wheels fell off this year though? Before Shiel and Parish came in and disrupted the nice run of consistency Caldwell/Durham/Merrett were having in there.

I don’t know why, but it seems that every time Shiel returns, we play ■■■■. It’s not like he plays poorly, but our team dynamic changes because we end up with Hobbs in a pocket, Durham at HF etc.

We need to make some tough calls on some good players to fix the team dynamic.

Cox and Jones need to be played forward or trade them this year. This 200cm wing experiment must end. Perkins is a HF, just play him there. Durham and Caldwell should be part of the starting midfield every week. Parish should have been traded last year before he signed, but now he starts on the bench. Setterfield in the middle with Durham and Caldwell is my choice, because he is a defensive mid. Put Merrett and Roberts at HB, Martin and Duursma on each wing. Trade Tsatas and Hobbs.

We need to turn over underperforming top picks quicker. Especially if their disposal is questionable. Use the picks we get from them to draft in quality ball users in any position.

I wouldn’t be trading Tsatas …. that one will come back to haunt us. Hobbs, mmmm todays footy has kinda moved past his style a bit, probably a keeper also, needs to be quicker & gain more endurance, so needs to find a running coach for the pre pre season
