Trade talk - from October 2024 (Part 7)

This is where Vozzo and Rosa come into it.

It seems all of his closest and longest friends have taken his parents side. Seems an ugly situation.

I saw that too, he’s not in terrible shape IMO. Nothing a preseason won’t fix.
Imagine would outrun Stringer in a 2km time trial.

I’m gonna be honest, I just don’t believe that even despite what Hill says.

My guess is our team got in touch with his team (by which I mean mgmt) and was told that he was settled on Pies, or that the deal was already done, or perhaps our team told them we were no longer interested, say because we had the Daveys or Gresham on the way (that’s a plucked guess - I might have my times wrong).

We have a team of full time recruiting specialists who’d be talking to up to or in excess of 100 players every year and in constant dialogue with dozens. It’s just not plausible that we weren’t talking to him having been keen 12 mths prior. My guess is just that it was shut before it re-opened and it was never brought to Bobby.

FWIW, though I was keen on Bobby in 2021 at the time, I recall him being very much a flashy ā€œpossibly untapped potentialā€ type, in the Malcolm Rosas mould, so it’s easy to pot us now, but IMO he wasn’t worth paying overs for at the time, just very much so in retrospect looking at what he’s become.

But the notion that we never spoke to him is as implausible as finding out our players don’t stretch or warm up before training. It’s just not possible (although…)

Just my 2c.

Of course I was a Hird fan when he was a player, but his time as a coach was a disaster and took the club to the brink of destruction.

I simply don’t believe that his just saying to Dank and Robinson ā€œmake sure it’s all above board and not harmfulā€ either, not do I believe that there weren’t staffers saying ā€œmake sure we keep precise recordsā€. Surely there were people coming to him, the man between them and Dank/Robinson, saying ā€œare you sure we need these?ā€. I simply don’t believe the stories that were put out. And the legality of the substances is not the issue, it was the supervision.

But equally, I reckon if the AFL and ASADA really wanted, there would have been a heap of suspensions from people taking dodgy crap. We say the Judd and the Chinese swimmers Youtube.

But my problem at heart is…stop living in the ā– ā– ā– ā– ā– ā– ā–  past.

If one of Draper or Bryan chose to leave I’d love Jackson as a replacement/upgrade.

Just confirming you called me a moron Alan ?

It’s a high risk high reward type deal.

My thinking would be, if he can’t get himself motivated and professional when he’s on probabaly 700k a year now, what legit chance to people see him getting it together, probably closer to a peanuts salary ?

if anyone paid him more than 200k they are pretty derelict in their duty.

Generally speaking players who are in this boat, unless they get a wake up call, by no club taking the punt on them, they don’t change their spots. I see all the talk re Hogan doing it, but can you think of anyone else who’s overcome a blatant disregard for being professional about their football, without first being removed from the afl system, like a stengle ?

he will go to an interstate club where his antics won’t be so easily produced to a hungry afl media.

Yep I think you’re probably right. But still… idk. The risks are real but the payoff would be incredible if the penny drops.

Jesse Motlop?

Still OOC, apparently keen to stay at FC, 21yo small fwd who’s shown glimpses but could be a late bloomer.

I actually don’t mind the idea of Ryan - he’ll be 29 but would give us some more class/depth/experience in the fwd half. Plus we’d have a player on our list who’s actually played in a premiership & Vozzo/Rosa would know him well.

My main concern is that it looks like he hasn’t been able to get on the park for a full season in a while. 16, 3, 17, 14 games over the past 4 years.

He’s actually starting to sound a lot like Stringer lol but a couple of years younger & plays in a position that suits the team better as a 181cm small fwd.

If Motlop is holding out with blues it’s to go home.

Liam Ryan was a big bombers fan.

maybe a 3 way trade gets it done.

Fark Carlton: Gresham
Eagles: Motlop
Ess: Ryan

Martin Pike springs to mind.

All this talk about trading for Liam Ryan today… did we literally not just get an article drop saying that part of our list management rules is not trading for anyone over the age of 28? Direct quote from Vozzo.

Liam Ryan.
Hasn’t kicked over 20 goals in a season since 2021.
Injured alot.
Will be 29.

Trying to work out why anyone could possibly think he suits us

Also ā– ā– ā– ā–  no to Motlop… I get that he’s young, but that’s about the only thing he has going for him.

Big no to Ryan, doesn’t tackle.

JUH would be incredible but we don’t have enough strong leadership yet to keep him on track.

He would also be in every article and story for the next year if he joined us, making it even more difficult for him to just focus on footy.

For the right price the pros out way the risks but he would need to take a smaller salary

Get Harley Reid and Jamarra, they both reach their full potential for the next 12 years, we get lauded for turning their careers around, everyone can’t stop talking about our culture to the point other teams fans get visibly sick at it’s mere mention.

It may not be true but there’s a common theme there with the same happening to Massimo

Liam Ryan will be 28 until October, so if we sign him before then he still fits in the 28 and under.

If it’s Gresham out Ryan in, I don’t really mind. Might also help bringing Harley Reid in with familiar faces. I think he is more Dynamic than Gresham. Does it help with Ugle-Hagan?
Also adds AFL premiership experience to the list.

Big ā– ā– ā– ā– ā– ā– ā–  no to Motlop. FC have worse small forwards than us.
