I liked the bit where they talked about Essendon…
Or is mentioning players who used to play for Essendon sufficient for click-bait?

Well they can always take him to court. That’s what contracts are all about.
If they’re afraid about what might come out in the court process, or they don’t like the “look” of taking Marra to court, then that’s on them - they can’t have it both ways, i.e. “he should stick to the contract but we won’t use the contract’s legal function either” (such an approach wouldn’t make them morally superior, just another business doing business, and their actions - in both entering the contract and declining to enforce it - reveal their intentions, i.e. self-preservation and self-benefit…same as Marra)
How is this any different from McKenna walking out of the club mid contract… then walks to another club and we don’t even receive FA compensation.
Another Campbell fail
He would be a good get for their marketing team, they will need players who bring in eyes and bums who will also happily handle the attention.
And he’ll be a high quality ruckman in the middle of his prime.
Id happily offer a big 2 year deal with options to extend at the end of 2027 might actually be the best case scenario for both.
He would be good bait to try and draw some juicy draft concessions especially if they have the minidraft access to bottom age players again.
It’s no different. We should have been compensated.
I think the AFL would argue it was the 3 (?) years between McKenna leaving and coming back.
Yeah, he wasn’t under contract, and wouldn’t have been even if he saw out his original contract with us. There was no avenue for compensation. There shouldn’t have been compensation for Liam Jones either, but he at least would have been under contract.
Is there any suggestion he will be allowed to? He’s under contract at the dogs, they haven’t delisted him. I’d assume it would be a standard trade negotiation as far as the rules go.
I have no idea. There seems to be two polarising views, one of which is that he will seek to be released from his contract on mental health grounds. If this happens I doubt WB will get a great return
I think looking at how Harley’s season is improving, he’s mentally put his contract and decision until post season.
Doesn’t matter. He knows he has some great options, including staying in Perth.l, I’m sure the tiges, cats, dons and maybe some others.
Definetly looks to be playing better footy
All this waffle about “Harley happier at the Eagles” is just B.S. Young players have forms slumps and things can impact them more as they mature. I think the main reasons Harley was playing poorly was due to the media beat up early in the season and the fact he was finding form.
He was and always has been a gun, capable of great football. He was just finding his feet in his second season as a young player.
He’ll be donning the Sash soon
Get Reid & keep Draper.
I like the sound of Budarick - tough small lockdown defender with decent pace & kicking, 24yo who’s OOC, bumped down the pecking order at the Suns since they got Noble & Rioli. Apparently we were one of the clubs interested in him last year.
I’d trade Hobbs before Tsatas. Shiel goes, Setterfield becomes depth with Reid, Caldwell & Parish as our starting three, Tsatas next in line, with cameos from Duz/Merrett/Martin.
Reid, Budarick, Sweid, Huss would be a great haul.
I’d also be looking at JUH but seems like he’s set on the Swans anyway.
I think Durham is a more important player for us in the middle than Caldwell and I suspect he is only going to get better and better.
As long as we don’t play him injured.
Hypothetical trade
Eagles: In H McKay, B McKay, 8, 9
Ess In: H Reid,
Blues In: A Reid, 27
We reunite Reid Brothers, Eagles Reunite McKay brothers and they get away from Vic footy fish bowl.
Blues get young mid.
Eagles likely losing Allen through free agency.
edit: scrapped Tsatas to blues.
You reckon Carlton would accept Tsatas and pick 27, for Harry McKay?
Harry is a bit of a salary dump.
they could have archer reid instead.
Then we still have one brother in defence and they have one brother as a forward.
Moving Harry helps them keep other players possibly.
we could then run with following backline
b: McGrath Reid Ridley
hb: Johnson Hayes Roberts
int: Redman
They certainly don’t need another inside mid with questionable disposal. (i’m not actually sure who does, really).
They’d have much more interest in Archer Reid, i would think.
