Trade talk - from October 2024 (Part 7)

I can have a hamstring strain for 12 weeks and go to the gym for 300k a year

I won’t even have any dreams to crush. I’m so over the hill

I recon the trolling by the Hawk BF chump would be more effective if he didn’t have that user name & tagline…

I’d imagine that Worpel might be on the whiteboard for us but would be option 3 or 4…I think any offer we make to him would be reasonable but nothing that our cap wouldn’t be able to manage. There is no way that Rosa or Scott would see him shifting the needle for us but if Tsatas, Hobbs , Setterfield and Shiel are not retained this off season then it would not be unreasonable for us to put ourselves in the frame with his management.

Agreed, definitely not a game changer

Setterfield is clearly valued. Retained IMO.

Shiel is done, Tsatas will try to exit/already gone.

Hobbs is interesting, he apparently was angling to leave last year but we talked him out of it. Has been played often this year in seniors but is OOC and we are looking to improve our midfield group trade wise which would push him back further on fringes

I am now hearing that Starcevich is staying. Also fwiw the Reid to Bombers talk is starting to hurt my ears.

Starcevich’s concussion history makes him too big a risk.

As in youre hearing lots of talk? I was assuming from media hes staying.

alks are continuing between Essendon and Sam Draper’s management as the Bombers free agent weighs up rival interest from Adelaide and Brisbane.

Bombers coach Brad Scott has previously said the club will give Draper “as much time as he needs” to make a call on his future.

The ruckman, who’s currently sidelined with a season-ending Achilles injury, has spent time in Noosa as he considers his options.

It’s understood the Bombers have tabled Draper a four-year extension, while Brisbane’s offer is considered the most enticing of the three clubs, as first reported by foxfooty.com.au’s Will Faulkner.

Draper’s potential departure could net Essendon another high draft pick and add to its 2025 crop — with two first rounders (currently picks 5 [tied to Melbourne] and 6) and two second rounders.

The Bombers also have emerging rucks Nick Bryan, who’s also out of contract, and Vigo Visentini waiting in the wings to step into bigger roles.

Essendon is meanwhile keen to retain Elijah Tsatas despite the potential for the former Pick 5 to pursue a fresh start elsewhere amid interest from other clubs.

Tsatas has struggled for regular senior opportunities in Brad Scott’s side in 2025, despite the Bombers’ myriad of injuries and his strong VFL form, averaging 33 disposals in the twos.

But the 20-year old has played just four AFL games — one as the sub — with his last appearance in Round 12 as the Bombers have given the bigger-bodied Will Setterfield more run through the midfield.

Essendon is still bullish about Tsatas’ prospects and wants to keep developing the midfielder, who’s contracted for 2026.

The Bombers, who had interest in Gold Coast’s Matt Rowell and Port Adelaide’s Miles Bergman prior to them re-signing with their respective clubs in recent weeks, remain a watch for West Coast’s Harley Reid.

However the view from clubs right now is Reid is more likely to remain at the Eagles at least until the end of his 2026 contract.

Draper can go to Bris Vegas if he wishes. Straight swap for Coleman.

These comments wreak of us briefing the reporter to go public with this to set the narrative that we want to keep him, when in fact we are open to him leaving.

100% agree.
He’s doing a solid block of vfl development this year. Will break out next year. We totally value* him…

*as a mid to late second round pick if you’re interested

I remember in the 2020 offseason there was a “fluff” piece about how excited we were to keep Lav and develop him into a dynamic midfielder. Then the offseason starts and he is training as a key back

The question with Bris is whether they have the cap space (and want) to offer Draper a contract lucrative enough to trigger Band 1 compo - especially if they’re keeping Starcevich & bringing in Allen as well.

I doubt it. And the problem with him being an UFA rather than a RFA is they have no incentive to as there’s no threat of us matching and forcing them to cough up picks or players to get him.

The only potential threat is a bidding war with Adelaide or another club driving things up to the band 1 territory but his Achilles injury probably ends the possibility of that happening.

You don’t get extra time off. Teams who play finals start preseason later since the time-off is a fixed amount agreed in the AFLPA agreement with the AFL.

Please god no.

Worpel is potentially the worst kick in the league and has been linked to Geelong for most of the year

Never trust anything the club or the club’s people say. It’s 90% BS most of the time.
