Barrass?

They have plenty of picks.

They own rights to Carlton’s 1st and 2nd round picks this year and can also trade 2026 and 2027 picks.

We need Hawks and Blues to finish higher than Ess and Dees.

So it essentially boils down to where Melbourne finishes relative to FARK CARLTON.

Hawthorn will finish above both Essendon and Melbourne. Essendon will finish below FARK CARLTON.

losing to Hawks last week could have been the difference in getting Reid or not.

Scott has lured Duursma, and a few North boys - McKay, Goldy, and Gresh came for the payday he wouldn’t have got at saints. Prior acquisition was more like Rutten getting Kelly but even lower profile…

Can Scott and Vozzo get Harley

  • Caddy + Duursma

or will Barass + Mitchell convince him.

  • Watson

If a player like Reid chooses a club then the club has already agreed to do what it takes and will get a deal done. Hawthorn has access to 3 first round picks.

In that it means we finish with 32 fewer premiership points than Hawthorn instead of 28?

Draper gone as FA (Band 1)
Parish for a 2nd rounder (Pay some salary)

Assume we finish 15th, Dees finish 9th, Saints 14th
Assume Reid wants out and has 2nd year blues.

Draft hand 4, 5 (Draper), 10, 22, 23, 30 (Parish)

Trade 4, 5 for Reid and Archer Reid
Trade 10+30 for Jamarra
Trade F3rd for Liam Reidy

Draft 22, 23

McGrath McKay Ridley
Redman Reid Merrett
Duursma Durham Martin
Perkins Caddy Reid
Kako Jammara Langford
Reidy Reid Caldwell
Tsatas Roberts Jones Davey

All the Reids!!!

It won’t come down to which club can offer the best hand. it will be which team Harley wants. Hopefully he’s a fair way down the path with us and really wants to play for us. Our trading strategy last year certainly suggested that we are planning to splurge on someone this year.

It definitely wouldn’t be.

Hawks are no more guarenteed success than we are. It takes a lot of time and hard work for a side to move from top 8 to winning a premiership and often sides never quite get there.

Reid is young, he’d be sold on what the future possibly holds as opposed to what the current situation is.

I don’t think WC would take the risk in keeping him for another year.

Word on the street is that Reid definitely doesn’t want to be there and isn’t committed to the cause. Keeping him around another year against his will could really backfire on the Eagles big time.

Even if he has an average year this year, his value would be a lot higher than 2 average/disinterested years.

I also wouldn’t be surprised if Reid did a Bailey Smith and basically sat on the sidelines until the contract was over.

I was thinking more in better picks, but yeh.

it likely depends more on relationships.
Feedback from Duursma and Caddy re Scott and Watson/Barrass on Mitchell
I cant see other melbourne clubs being able to match with picks or salary cap or connections.

Prob one of the times I agree a touch with the Corn re Harley Reid.

The talent is unquestionable, but the Penny has no where near dropped on or field as yet.
Way too easy to get Harley off his game.

To go even further, I didn’t think he looked in great shape….even if you said he has that Stringer-esque type physique whereby he’s never going to look completely shredded.

Do we have the leaders to help Reid should we acquire him? Jury’s out.

Right now I’d be as interested in Rowell as Reid

There’s no way Rowell is leaving Gold Coast. Next best option to Reid would be LDU, but we could get LDU for nothing via free agency.

Maybe we get both? Brad Scott coached LDU for 2 years at North. Perhaps this is all part of the plan.

How did Hawks ger Carltons first rounder?

Future picks: The Hawks gave up their 2025 first-, second- and third-round selections to West Coast in order to secure Tom Barrass , while receiving a fourth-round pick in return. The Hawks earlier received future first- and second-round selections from Carlton for pick 14.

So Hawks only have Blues first rounder this year, as they have traded theirs to Eagles.

Literally pin this and end the thread.

Nah, fk it. Do it.

We haven’t had a generational talent on the list like Harley for a very long time. Our list is so fkn vanilla that this is the type of risk you need ti take.

JHF has worked out for Port so far after an underwhelming time at North.

It’s a year too early for an all in trade like this. If we did as you said, and took 3/4 top 30 picks to the draft this year and then showed improvement in 2026, I would be fine with us going for Harley.

But not now. There’s too many question marks on our recent first round selections
