Trade talk - from October 2024

Does anyone watch Fremantle?

I only remember seeing him play one game but Emmett looked pretty handy I thought

Been delisted, whats the knock?

There are only two types of Essendon supporters.

Those who know theyā€™re emotionally damaged and those who donā€™t.

Edit: and diggersā€¦what ever happened to that guy?

Thatā€™s what I thought as wellā€¦ seemed to go in hard, tackle and chase

He looked so un-athletic this year after and it strikes me as potentially a profile that will be out of the league in a year or two as a result

Anyone still upset about having Melbourneā€™s first rounder next year?

It was really smart work getting that pick.

To trade it away this year would be foolish.

We have 7 list spots open.

To be trading most of our picks away to get into the first round, would be incredibly silly imo.

In a deep draft, this is our opportunity to revamp the list.

Exactly what I was thinking @saladin

Why wait for the Kako bid to get back into the first round?

Before Kako is bid on we could do a deal on say pick 8 and use Melbourneā€™s future first. We then use pick 8 on Armstrong or Shanahan. We then use later picks to match a Kako bid

Youā€™d have to give up a lot more than just Melbourneā€™s future first to get pick 8. Look at how many picks the dees gave up to get 9.

Well, we will likely have nothing else to do

We just traded pick 9 out.
We arenā€™t then going to trade back in to 8ā€¦ at the cost of the same picks or perhaps even more.
Of course we could, but we wonā€™t.

If Kako hasnā€™t been bid on yet by pick 15 or so, and thereā€™s someone we really rate, perhaps then we pull the trigger and keep some of the picks we got from the Dees for points.

Or if Kako is bid on before then, we probably try to get fancy and trade out our first couple of picks, so they arenā€™t taken by the bid.

We would have extended him by now you would have thought.

If a club comes with a truckload of money for himā€¦.well I mean hes only human.

I think he will stay a Don.

Should we try and snag Gunston before Hawthorn can get him again?

Would be low key hilarious if we took him in the rookie draft

Still have our ā– ā– ā– ā–  poor fitness dept to ensure weā€™re cooked by mid season

There are a few emotionally stunted enough that are immune to anything Essendon can throw at the fans each year. Itā€™s the apathetic, water off a ducks back, group of fans. They are the ones that realise the season started in round 4 and ask if Brent Stanton still plays for the team.

Even though Iā€™m emotionally stunted at the best of time, I wish I was that apathetic about Essendon and fit into the category of knowing Iā€™m damaged.

Keep our 2025 hand, add to it with 28+31. Take Kako, Nguyen and a couple more in the 40s. Give our young list a real crack in 2025.

Have a real beefy 2025 draft hand that Rosa can really plan for.

Itā€™s a slower more patient approach, but I think itā€™s an obvious one.

Iā€™m not sure selecting a bunch of kids in the 40ā€™s & 50ā€™s is a great list rebuild approach.

If it is we get picks in the top 3 the following year.

Picking in the middle of the first round is helping as much as picking in the 40s and MSD / SSP.

Itā€™s not ideal every year, but I think weā€™re banking on Kako first, and putting stock in next years draft. In that case we really only need Kako and 1 other guy be this years Roberts, along with Nguyen and itā€™s ok. Give the young guys we already have on the list a chance to earn their spot and then further turn over next year.

Of course in those later rounds we could end up with players that turn out to be total dross and you would have been vindicated.
