Trade talk - from October 2024

It’s not ideal, but it’s the hand we have due to last year’s trading and its better than holding a few fringe/known-not-up-it players.

The Brad Scott approach is to sign Jaxon Prior, Okey Markov, Jack Gunston and Ash Johnson to 4 year deals. Would you prefer that?

Maybe a Jack Carroll, Brandon Parfitt, Charlie Lazzaro, Jack Bytel, Jack Hayes, Riley Bonner and Francis Evans as well.

Perhaps even a Lachlan McAndrew

No need to take draft picks when the delisted are a smorgasbord of options

Those type of smorgasbord’s have mostly gone out of business. For good reason.

Update: Tim Membrey has signed with Collingwood.

Given that we dont know how or where half of our young draftees will fit into the team in 2025 (tsatas, hobbs, cox, perkins, reid), and still not 100% on where martin/ jones will play, I am comfortable with this approach while we figure out what the ■■■■ to do with the aforementioned.

Clearly Kako is addressing a need, but there is still so much unknown around other areas of the ground that I would be hesitant to bring in too much more talent immediately until we are 100% clear on what is happening going forward, or else I can just see us drafting players again with no identifiable or obvious improvement to our team.

Did Rosa stay at GC or get delisted?

Stayed at GC, signed a 2 year deal at the end of 2023 so covered next year.
Nothing seemed to come of the chatter about being told to explore his options/etc. Possibly just a media beatup.

Rosa is our list manager… :upside_down_face:

If you mean Malcolm Rosas then he is contracted for next year. Suns just allowed him to “explore options” which nobody bothered with. So I assume at this stage they are keeping him.

Sorry if already been mentioned, are we still interested in signing Jaxson Prior?

think so but it will probably depend on who/how many we draft, we won’t take him before then

We need list spot open to use picks to match Kako bid, I assume we may look at getting Prior either at the end of the draft (if want to give him 2 years) or wait for the rookie draft (to give him 1 year)

Neither option is ideal.

add to it with 28+31? They will be gone matching the Kako bid

We trade them for future picks and some more Kako points.

For example 28 to Saints for F2 and 47
31 to Cats for F2 and 57

You make the trades as the draft is going, the later the Kako bid comes the easier it will be to trade the picks.

I think someone said the other day may have been cal twomey that more likely to be in the rookie draft

We don’t really know what pick it will be, way to early to think it will be a top 10 pick

Will win a Norm Smith

Monty for ANZAC Day medal for best on.

the brad scott approach is to also not play said kids, let alone kids not from the first round.
So I think CH has a point to a degree, going by how scott has coaches previously the gap between the players he will play and the players he won’t will be filling up the players he won’t group moreso than anything else.

So i mean if you enjoy watching shiel run around in the guts, and cox stink it up in the backline, well this approach is wonderful cos you’re going to get what you want.

I assume the main premise behind CH was the more guys beyond say the pick 30’s you’re not exactly going to know or have a lot of intricate detail about them, and in recent history those guy picked in that range for this club don’t last more than 2 years (cahill, johnson, eyre, brand etc etc) and then as just mentioned you have a coach who doesn’t like taking risks, esp with these types of kids.

it’s definitely an interesting approach.
