Trade talk - from October 2024

Yeah, what he said.

And the homesick pangs are happening. He wants to go back to Sussex.

Committed suttee when FFFFRRRRAAAANNNNKKKKLLLLLIIIINNNNN!!! retired.

Transfer to Brighton.

That is their bad luck.

Makes sense. They believe theyā€™re still in the window so really a no brainer.

Culley would be a good pickup if we use a late draft pick. Other than that ise the picks to match a Kako bid, then grab whatever is left over.

We need:

  • fast, smart small forwards;
  • good defensive small backs that have accurate disposal; and
  • outside runners with leg speed that can kick.

We should only pick up Culley if itā€™s on a 1 year contract with the idea weā€™ll probably delist him next year for a list spot. So total Hail Mary. We donā€™t really need more mids.

My preference would be to sign him to the VFL team ASAP.

I agree on the reason giving, but l donā€™t believe Membrey would make enough of a difference to get them a flag in 2025.

Better as a power forward.

Hawks picked up scaife in mid season draft. Looks like a lively forward option now gunny is gone.

Gunston is getting picked up on their rookie list

in theory he is

Iā€™m a bit of a conspiracy theorist. Decoded the signs from the Hawks hinting they might do it.

Iā€™d personally prefer the rookie list got changed to be truer to its original purpose of providing opportunity for longer shot players, especially now with smaller list sizes. But failing that, tweak some of the other rules around contracts and the cap and just ā– ā– ā– ā–  it off.

Even ignoring that the ā€˜rookieā€™ part is totally meaningless, the only purpose it serves these days is to allow clubs to manage some minor bureaucratic issues that are entirely within the control of the AFL and hence could also be ā– ā– ā– ā– ā– ā–  off without consequence.

100 percent I feel like they need to introduce some kind of rule that a player delisted by that club canā€™t be selected by the same club in the same off season

But would the AFL want to fix up an administrative issue, if said issue allowed their communications specialists to generate 30 pages of content at a time when there shouldnā€™t be much else to talk about?

Technically that rule already exists, they have to nominate for the drafts and make it through both before their old club can relist them again

Those rules mean a player canā€™t be moved directly to the rookie list without nominating for the draft, sure, but they can still be relisted by the same club in the same off season, as evidenced by the fact that it happens all the time.
