Trade talk - from October 2024

The biggest positive about this, is we seem to have “plugged” all our leaks.
I liked Rosa’s interview it talked up a couple of players without making any statements about chasing them.
The Stringer comments (earlier on Blitz) are a further indication in us keeping things close to our chests.
I’ll be surprised if we are not quite active this trade period.

How f*cking entitled are these (so called) journalists???

‘Essendon have done nothing. They are one of our big click bait clubs…… how dare they keep a low profile’.

It makes sense but I feel like clubs don’t do this, it can come back to bite you so easily.

Otherwise they might as well bid on Lombard, Champion and Kako and take out 3 clubs at once

Yeah it seems like an unwritten rule or agreement to not screw each other over as when it comes your time with a father son or academy player, you’d want a fair bid.

But, there’s always exceptions to the rule…

It would only work in particular scenarios. I think GC and WC are pretty well protected from the likelihood of it happening given they are trading picks and getting players etc.

Our pick 9 would be exposed though if Melbourne got a pick on the other side of it to go with their existing pick, and we had a common interest.

Didn’t Sydney go on a run of bidding for heaps of players? I think it happens a bit.

Wow…trade radio has to be the worst radio station to have ever existed!! So much advertising and then when the hosts finally come on air I’m greeted with Barrett, Jenkins and some other flog talking crap about the Bailey Smith deal for 5 mins. Then more adverts!! What a load of drivel.

I think there’s more good faith between recruiting teams than we probably think, the second you start dealing in bad faith you potentially alienate yourself from deals down the track

Eg, what if we live trade out then give our pick to someone who drafts the player they wanted with the later pick

Mind you, of course it would probably happen to us

This is exactly what’s going on.
We are after Reid.

I think we will move our pick anyway in order to protect ourselves a bit, which is wise.

I hope so. And hopefully it’s mutual because there will be 16 other clubs going after him as well.

Negotiating to trade our first pick after a Kako bid diminishes our bargaining power unless their are multiple suitors for that pick. It’s possible than an in principle agreement with a club may be in place should a Kako bid eventuate.

With this scenario, isn’t it a choice between:

1. 2024 (3 + Kako) / 2025 (no 1st round)

Or

2. 2024 (Kako (or choice with 9) / 2025 (pick 3-10)?

So in the end the decision here is based on our belief around the relative strength of this years Vs next years draft top 10 quality and whether we think the player we would choose at #3 this year is better than pick 3-10 next year?

Am I missing something??

If so, it’s a reasonable scenario to consider I’d say…,

Probably won’t have many issues finding a home for pick 9.

Out of contract end of 2026. West Coast won’t trade him in contract. More likely Rayner.

Sounds like this is a formality now

Sit tight; be confident!

True, but my point is you’d get better value for it if not traded live.

They’re going to be waiting a long long time for Jake to nominate them. It’s not his strong suit.

Not necessarily. We’d have those talks underway beforehand surely, Why couldn’t we nab a F1 and potentially change for it, and then look to use that to get back into draft after we pick Kako?

There would be no shortage of teams keen on getting another pick, or a pick in the top 10-15 of this draft.
