Trade talk - from October 2025 (Part 10)

But Welshy said we aren’t parting with top 10 picks plus it will hurt our chances of getting Bewick next year

Why I don’t see us in the race for Humphrey will cost too much I do think 2028 is the right time for us to target some quality FA’s Tassie will be dominating the draft

I hope we offer Zac Bailey too much to turn down. We have more money than we can spend. Front load the contract and offer him overs

Hope we haven’t given up Bailey your right we have cap space to burn make him an offer that’s too hard to refuse it’s what Saints did to get TDK

Big difference is that TDK got an offer from another Vic club and seemed happy to stay in Melbourne.

Bailey’s mates here reckon he will stay in Brisbane or move to the Crows and that’s the only options.

But what about money!?!?!? We have money!!!

Doesnt he like money???

Crows would pay him very well plus all the other “perks” they get in Adelaide

This the issue that many supporters don’t understand.

Other clubs also have money, and can often match what we offer….. they also offer playing deep into finals, and many other perks aswell.

That all combines to a player making a decision.

If a player is only interested in money, then you’d have to seriously question their motivations to come to us.

At the moment, money is all we’ve got to offer.

Yeh but do they know we’re a ‘Big 4’ club?

maybe we should let them know we’re a ‘Big 4’ club.

….

‘Big 4’.

Not necessarily some one like Zac Bailey after winning three flags might be happy to cash in.

Mentoring and helping a young team grow could be appealing to him at a club like Essendon.

Offer Bailey $2 million a year for 7 years.

If it works, it works. If not… Meh.

ThiS

I think if we were trading out for players we would trade out compo from any Merrett trade(if he goes as assumed) and perhaps 2028/2029 draft picks

We would ask for later 2027 picks back for assistance in getting Kobe Bewick through the door.

You don’t pass on your elite academy/father son talent. You’re getting it cheaper than acquiring open draft talent.

We also didn’t hire his old man at the club to turn our backs on him.

Is bailey actually worth anywhere near that?

I’d say he is worth $1.6-1.8 million. But, we need to offer overs.

The “Ace” perks.

Aka buffet in the Qantas lounge.

How about we try get our sh-t together first, then we can target whoever we want and they’ll come.

Don’t forget 2 or 3 years ago Hawthorn were all in on Ben McKay, even offered more money and he still favoured Essendon.

The best they could attract in comparison was Chol from the Gold Coast.

You think Zach Merrett would have even looked at that rubbish back then?

Fast forward a couple of years and every player would consider them.

Agree. Imagine a Port with a Butters? Oh wait!

Stick to the draft. Top up with a freak after we’ve flattened out the list and shed the mediocrity.

Have some bombers news from off season

Harley Reids uncle who also represents his off field interests. He’s pretty well known in footy circles as he was a decent footballer himself.

Bombers called him over the off season to ask about Harley. When they spoke about $$ Essendon were less than the other offers.. Essendons response to that was: ‘We don’t like paying players a lot because we don’t want to put added pressure on them".

Not saying we are winning finals, but Luke Hodge’s argument to this is that you can’t pay a player $2 mil a season and expect to win finals. Your elite talent needs to accept less pay across the board. Mind you Hawks were also offering Harley like $10 mil across six seasons.

Don’t threaten us with a good time.
