And what’s this bullshit of you have until 7pm because we have other plans for pick 9. Then all they did with pick 9 was split it to pick 10 and 22 which they were going to give to us anyway.
That’s what’s being missed by the media.
They basically switched 9 for 10 and 22. Took away the second round pick and pretended it was an offer we couldn’t refuse.
Initial offer - Pick 9, Future 1st, a second and HH
Offer 2 - Pick 10, 22 and future 1st and HH. But wanted a 3rd back.
I think I would have taken the first offer and made it their future 2nd
I watched the sash podcast last night and I agree with Rob
I laugh when people say “it’s 3 first rounders” it’s not
A first rounder is between picks 1-18 pick 22 is a second rounder
In the end the deal was one first rounder and 2 second rounders which is crap for a player of Zac’s quality
And it’s not like we needed for points, we already had 3 x 2nd rounders.
We’re not in a rebuild. From 2021 to now we’ll have had ONE extra first round pick (unless you consider that Draper pick at 21 a first rounder). Six top-20 picks in five years of which only one was a top 5 pick. It’s not rebuilding to just take your picks to the draft, top up with Kelly, Gresham, Setterfield, Goldstein, McKay, Prior, Fiorini, trade out players you HAVE to trade (Draper, Zerk) and get rid of one player for peanuts who brought criminals into the rooms (Stringer). It’s not rebuilding playing senior players over kids every chance, even when you know it’s the last round and they’ve been told they’ll be delisted. It’s not winning at all costs, such as playing injured players.
A rebuild means playing kids, trading valuable players out for additional picks, finishing low to get top 3 picks, and focusing on establishing a strong culture.
I do wonder if we offered our 2027 second for them adding the 2027 first. Or offered to pay his salary.
But I suspect not. I don’t think we wanted to trade. Like Bulldogs in 2020 where the Blitz in the knows said Bulldogs kept responding to our offers by increasing the demands.
Yes understandable.
Melbourne will pay 50% of Olivers contract for the next five years! Wowsers
6+21+27 For 9+11+43+54 - Blues move ahead of the Dean bid we get an extra 1st.
Draft with 5, 9, 11 and picks to match NGAs?
We didnt increase our demands, they never met the first set.
Interesting we’ve put Vozzo up on trade radio debrief this morning rather than Rosa. Pretty sure all other clubs have put their list manager on.
Well we did play kids (through necessity in the end), we did finish low and we are (at least trying) to establish a strong culture.
Vozzo saying we are actively looking at ways to move up the draft
Where is he speaking?
Marvel stadium
Also afl website. Was the five hour post trade show which started at 7am.
He was on trade radio with Cal and Riley.
It’s a final day wrap up.
Also said he was surprised how late Haw came with their bid and with their stupid deadline.
Said we really wanted mature players, all they offered was Henry
Board approval for trades.
We have put our list manager up.
