Trade talk - from October 2025 (Part 10)

They have all their picks intact so this will be a done deal unless we throw huge money his way.

When was the last time we had 2 fit ruckmen?

Worry about that the year after (end of 2027) we will already lose too much experience this year.

If Bryan thought he was number 3 I think he’d probably look for a trade.
If we thought Wright was 3 it’d probably worth trading him.
We’ve got mighty Vigo coming through

Butters to dogs is interesting. I assume he takes Libba’s spot.

Hardly interesting, has been rumoured for over 12 months, and he sold his house in Adelaide last year.

Not interesting that he’s going to the dogs, more interesting on where he fits in to an already very strong midfield.

This might be our opportunity to get a Libba cheap, assuming he doesn’t retire because of concussion issues.

We don’t want libba taking midfield time off Sharp or Robey, plus his concussion issues.
Libba won’t be on anyone’s list now, he will retire a 1 club player.

Sanders was the one rumoured to be squeezed out, but given how well he is playing, not sure.
Sanders is from TAS, but believe has family in SA, brother plays in the SANFL and could go to the Crows.

Libba would be great to show Robey and Sharp how to go about it. His experience is exactly what we need. He wouldn’t replace those guys, he’d compliment them. It’s Parish, Caldwell etc that would be moved out of the midfield.

Libba is 34 years old.
Wines is 31 and a free agent, would be better to pick him up for a year if getting a aging veteran.
But they play too similar a role inside mid, still makes it hard to play them all.

Libba & Treloar out.

Butters in.

Seems a good fit to me.

If we are bringing in senior players they need to be excellent leaders.

Libba has been one of my favourite non-Essendon players but is a total space cadet. Not the answer.

Possibly not needed with Sharp and Robey coming in, but Jack Ough can’t get a game under Kingsley and is absolutely smashing ( literally) the VFL week after week.

Needs to go and play with Cumming at the Tigs, with that name.

I think any deal for Merrett will involve having one eye on acquiring the 2nd decent pick that will likely be required for Bewick next year under the new rules. The late chat ( unconfirmed) last trade period that we asked for Hawthorns 2027 first as well might have also been due to this.

a man in a green shirt and tie is smiling and saying `` o face '' .

I would be happy for Hawks first round plus future first.

Then if we get a late first for Ridley from Lions, hopefully package it up to move up the board for Butler.

say we end up with 15 (1,112) + 17 (1,025) = 2037 points

we could trade up points wise to pick 4 (likely later as clubs would value higher) so depending where Port/carlton finish could package them up and move up.

Also if we are not asking for a priority pick, what is this institution doing?

Need to trade/draft a defender in with Hayes now finished, Reid looking alarmingly poor, McKay off the pace and Ridley leaving

Could grab Charlie Ballard if Ridley goes to GC
