I don’t see it as emotional. It’s just being resolute and I bet we’ll get a great deal out of it.

Two firsts is a good deal if they were to throw in a future second next year or in 27 i would bite their hands off to get it.
I think with teams like gold coast and swans getting better through this trade period plus the dogs getting a full season out of darcy the hawks making the eight next year isnt a given.

FWIW I regularly deal with decent level negotiations for work. One of the most commonly used tactics is the idea of scarcity of anything.
This is what Hawks are doing - using time against us. Start with junk lowball deals, then as the trading period ends offer something greater but still probably unders to get us to accept something before the clock ticks out. It’s nothing revolutionary, but I hope it helps some of you cut through the media bullshyt and realise how they’re going about it strategically.
Conversely, Zach is also a scarce asset but he’s not exactly in the shop window.
tl;dr - Pretty sure Zach goes, but we’re in a game of chicken. I think Hawthorn will blink first as a failure to get a deal done has far greater negative ramifications on future deals for them.

Im not sure why people panic about these big deals.
Fox Footy always have a trade show where these deals are announced in the last hour of trade week.
They ding a bell each time a deal is announced.
This is just entertainment, click bait and ratings this whole reality show type scenario.
All these deals will be signed sealed and delivered, and they will go though like previous years.in a scripted set up.

Could allow us to trade up for one of Carlton’s picks to give them points if they take it.
Or even look at something that lets them trade up to 6 where we get their and Swans picks and send them points for Dean.

If something’s agreed to already, why are Merrett and his Manager meeting with the club/etc?
Wouldn’t surprise me if the AFL ask clubs in certain situations to hold off announcing, but thinking every deal goes this way is a little fanciful.
