Trade talk - from September 2025 (Part 9)

Yep.

Most Essendon fans will think it’s unders

Most Hawthorn fans think it’s overs

Most neutrals would think it’s fair

Well. Nahduh. And responding to it with a hard-line of “no” is negotiations 101 too.

Exactly this. Our underperformance over the last 3-4 years that eroded Zach’s trust with the club is an orchestrated scenario for ratings.

No movement so far has been anything out of the ordinary.

Now if come tomorrow night we’ve actually turned down a fair offer, then that’s a different story.

It’s probably the least you’d accept so let’s push for more. Provide a list of players for us to pick from and we get 1 pick.

I think the only reason we may not trade zach is because they dont want to make welsh look silly and Brad wants to try and push up the ladder to save his job.

A huge portion of essendon fans want the rebuild nearly every neutral fan can see we need the rebuild

Riley Beveridge has the biggest crush on Cal Twomey.

Giggling like a school girl.

There is zero precedent for a contracted, 6 time b&f, captain and club champion with the best durability and professionalism in the comp requesting a trade to a clubs most bitter rivals..

2 mid to late first is an insulting offer.

Fiorini still not done? Are they waiting for the Petracca picks to be sorted or something else? I’m assuming we haven’t got any other targets so hopefully this one gets sealed.

It will get done

Yes. Gold Coast want second round capital

We SHOULD do that. Whether we do…

Merrett staying and also bringing Fiorini in whilst keeping Setterfield is the peakiest Essendon ever

I was just thinking the same as I watched Josh Dunkley’s Crichton Medal speech and considered what role Bobby Hill would play for us next year, while watching the swans chase Curnow to replace their recently retired star Joe Daniher.

Thats an interesting timeline.

Not like the time Ryan Griffen was traded with pick 6 for Tom Boyd??

Yes we should, why because there is a decent possibility that in one of those years Hawks have an off year because of injuries or whatever, everyone thinks those FFs are with Hawks being top 2… one could very much be a missing the 8 pick which even with TAS coming in makes the offer very good

Would hope we’re pushing for something like…

Essendon

IN - Fiorini, Pick 7 (GC), Pick 9 (Haw), Pick 31 (Haw), Pick 43 (Haw)

OUT - Merrett, Pick 21, Pick 27, Pick 30

Hawthorn

IN - Merrett

OUT - Pick 9, Pick 31, Pick 43, 2026 1st

Gold Coast

IN - Pick 21 (Ess), Pick 27 (Ess), Pick 30 (Ess), 2026 1st (Haw)

OUT - Fiorini, Pick 7

Add 2027 F1 plus McKinzie and it’s just about done

we hold him to his contract again
