Trade talk - from September 2025 (Part 9)

We Create an environemtn where they want to stay.
And it has to be easier attracting players next year, if we are not dealing with a Merrett exit.

I genuinely think the club will be shocked if we finish low next year. I get the feeling we think we are better than what we are and igs injuries and fitness holding us back.

Zac could help unlock this trade instead of whingeing to the club ā€œtrade meā€

But Nino the only ones who can unlock this trade are his manager and Hawthorn. Zach wants to leave; he doesn’t care how it happens or how well we profit from it. He’s not going to come out and declare that if the Hawks really want him they must be prepared to give up the world. By the way that’s the world he’s elected to join so why would he want that to change?

Zac is in the US on Holiday now.

Lots of contracted players wanting out this trade period and it’s only going to get worse. Wouldn’t surprise me if the AFL make a change to how player contracts are written up

There needs to be consequences or penalties if a player wants break a contract mid way through imo

That’s decision making based on emotion, silly and doesn’t help Essendon.

Keeping him only for him to request another trade next year, creates another 12 months of this circus, the media will not shut up, every loss will be about Zach and how sad he is.

Also we get a year closer to Tassie, more compromised draft picks, he’ll still pick a contender, they’ll have worse picks than pick 9. Waiting is insane.

Love how the agent is going, ā€œwell it will happen again next yearā€. What part of contracted for 2 years do you not understand you ignorant ā– ā– ā– ā–

And how would he do that?

Convince Will Day to trade places?

Come to Essendon, it’s really super …

Hahaha, gotcha!

What do you expect him to do?
Start canvassing Hawthorn players to find one that might accept leaving?

Stop jumping at shadows. Get the player that’s acting like a brat and wants to leave right now out of the club, and then make the club an environment that players actually want to stay in.

He could come back to the club next year and be professional and be a good role model and leader for the young players on the list.

Or he could do the opposite. Who knows.

He can say these are players Essendon wants if you cant get any then I’m forced to stay.

Yeah pick 9 and a fringe player will be their final offer

Interchange: Zac Merrett, Jackson Merrett, Marty Gleeson, Patrick Ambrose

possibly our best 22 in the last 15 years, who played together.

I think Aleer would be a great player to look at for depth option. No Lav and a defence that’s not that strong he would be worth a look I think.

What if Merrett is actually possessed by a demon, and Tom Mitchell’s seeking to release that demon and plunge the world into an eternal apocalypse in which humanity is enslaved to the whim of horned evil deitys?

So if we give Zach a list names; Weddle, Newcombe, Watson and (ā– ā– ā– ā–  it) Sicily; to give to Hawthorn and then he said it’s them or me?! I like this strategy! Great plan…let’s fucken do it!!
