We are not talking about Clayton Oliver here with a drug habit who is now overweight. We are talking about the more durable and professional player in the comp.
If he comes back, he’ll still be the same player. He’ll just not be the captain. Every dressing room in the AFL has players who dislike each other. Guaranteed Brissie would be in that boat, it’s not a big deal.

Any trade talk I guess. Could be part of our tactic to make them pay way overs, but this guy gets good mail constantly. He’s a Carlton fan.
But his manager is right in a way. They will do this all again next year and we will either have to cop it or hold him to his final year and let him walk for pretty much nothing.

Given his age and him being out of contract the year after, it’s a lot more likely next year.
Hawks aren’t serious about getting him, otherwise it would be done. We send message to our other peanut players, if you’re under contract, you’re going nowhere unless we say so. Merrett will probably have a new manager when the circus starts next year. Going backwards to send a message and reset.

That’s fine if he wasn’t Captain but if the club isn’t prepared to hold the Captain accountable to some form of loyalty standard then what hope do you have with the rest of the list?!?

We can absolutely hold him to his last year but what does that achieve. We get to keep him for an extra year and then lose him for nothing or we try to cash in and bring in a kid who hopefully is a cornerstone of the club for the next 10-15 years
