How the hell do we support someone who actively wanted to leave our club because he felt entitled to success? Our captain through selfishness or lack of leadership has been undermining the team and now we are supposed to cheer him?

Exactly. This was all about the rebuild for me. Club is evidently still run by the same morons. Feel hungover AF this morning.. and don’t drink.
The off season has only been a couple of weeks. We’ve barely even scratched the surface of disastrous yet.
Who cares how long he has? He’s still contracted, he wanted out last year and again this year. At least he told the club he wanted out instead of meeting with other clubs first, then have the meeting leaked.
Maybe it Merrett had have given an option of clubs to deal with.
And if it’s a contracted player and the club wants him to stay, you have to pay overs, not fair value.
He is 30 farking years old.
You arent going to get 2 top 10 picks for a player of that age. Not without giving something significant back.

I have had a moment to reflect on all this, and realised im just farking sick of this whole sport.
I can see why Essendon didnt do the deal - even though I personally would have. I firmly believe a crack at a player like Dovatson and then further draft flexibility was the superior choice to keeping an aging player who is a culture cancer.
However, we should already have an extra top 10 pick and this is what properly ■■■■■■ me off. We have been ■■■■■■ around by the AFL with the Draper compensation big time.
Im not completely sure if this is even possible now but if it is I really hope we try and move two of our later picks to try and get another top 10 pick in this draft.
Robey/Cumming/Dovatson needs to be our goal here. One which we could have easily accomplished with this trade, or if the AFL wasnt ■■■■■■■ corrupt.
On a positive note, it was nice to stick it up to Hawthorn, who did the absolute bare minimum to try and get this trade done. They came into this trying to pay the lowest possible price. You simply cannot do that after you court a contracted club captain.
Bigger bunch of idiots than us, and I genuinely hope this prevents players from choosing them in the future. ■■■■ them.

What’s wrong with 10,22, F1 2026 and F1 2027?
I’m really not sure about that, his attitude stunk last few rounds of the year. I have real concerns he will shut off completely and just go through the motions. If this happens I hope he spends large chucks of the year in the VFL couldn’t care less about his dwindling trade value.

We will be ok. I wanted to see a trade happen but the offers literally got worse. The hawthorn arrogance is astounding. There was a deal there for them on the table, they thought we’d role over- you can’t tell me it doesn’t reek of Mitchell. That guy has zero respect for us and words can’t describe my dislike for him.
We have enough good/decent picks in this draft to pick up some good players, and those together with improvement from Johnson, Clarke, Kako, Caddy, and Roberts should be exciting to watch. Hopefully we delist a few plodders.
As the dust settles, I’m glad the whole Zach episode blew up. He isn’t a leader and luckily he will be stripped of his captaincy and his whinging mates are all gone now. The club has been held to ransom by that group for too long. Time to install a leadership group that will play for the jumper. Pidge and Co should empower the younger players and drive change-Fiorini is a good pickup and will fill an important role in relation to this. Zach coming back and toeing the line will be good for this also. He’s a professional, but every player now knows, the club comes first. Not the players- his presence will be a nice reminder of this every day for the next couple of years.

Let’s just be competitive and snag a few wins, that’s what it’s all about.
I still don’t understand who is getting paid so much in 2026 to fulfill our salary cap obligations.
We could argue about this until blue in the face, and i agree that the Hawks ■■■■ the bed and managed this very poorly. The disappointing thing is that we still chose the path of “■■■■ you” instead of the path that would have been best for the club long term. Sometimes being ruthless is knowing when to eat ■■■■, if it means ultimately you’re going to be a lot better for it in the long run. I think we made a massive mistake. But hey, i guess we won the non trade…(?)

It’s not the first time he’s looked elsewhere and probably not the first time he’s aired concerns at the club. It’s just the first time it got out.
He won’t sandbag or drop off .. he’ll give maximum and the players will have him back no problem. Its been cleansing for everyone and its over now (until next year’s trade period).
And besides, your own avatar is a reminder to you, right!

The talk of Essendon demanding 4 first round picks in disingenuous. Pick 22 is a first round in name only. We wanted two early picks included in the deal.
