Trained wellThu Played Poorly Sun against Melbourne

Given the stuff said in Asada thread yesterday as players previously had assurances of no sanction to then be told will get 6 months with guilty plea must have been a shock. Jackie rght on the ball again. This surely played on their mind during Melbourne game.

Since I wrote this discussion topic I have received a message from the EFC on Craig's Comments.  He has been the main goal kicking coach this year - especially with Joe Daniher.  We are told that he has gone to New York for a "Leaders In Performance Conference" at a time when goal kicking has just been the main factor in losing on Sunday.  Has the club got the priorities right here?

Given the amount of weight we've been forced to lump on Joe's shoulder's in our current forward line set-up, it seems ridiculous that we haven't employed a specialist goal-kicking coach to work with him on an ongoing basis.

A bit over half way through the season and he's kicked 15-11 + a few out on the full. So in reality he is probably kicking at about 50 percent. Thing is the kicks he is missing are 25-40 metres out and for the most part incredibly gettable. It's not like he's repeatedly leading to the boundary line.

I don't care who it is, Lloyd, BT, Adam Yze, Jack Gunston (!) or that guy Perkins guy who coached Hurley in 2012.

I know Joe has the drive and the desire to get better, and he is likely doing the work required to improve his technique, But, it'd be great to know that it wasn't Goodwin or Craig working on it with him, given they already have a multitude of tasks to tend to.

Wow...ok... I personally think Joe's kicking for goal is worlds ahead of where it was last year, and even the start of this year.  He has clearly been working on it with someone.

Conversely, Bellchambers, Chapman, etc are going the other way.

every time i see this thread title, i think of that craig david song...

Seriously? Come on. So Craig is away and they suddenly can't kick? Clutching at straws here. It's a basic skill and it's been a problem for a number of years now. I've no doubt that there are many factors having a negative effect on our team, but kicking a goal from 25 to 30 metres out is not one of them.

bumped for HAP

so JM how is training day comparing to match day now.

If the rest of the comp isn't looking over their shoulder they should be.

Interesting to note the bounces stat from the weekend. 14-4 with us on the wrong side of the ledger. Pies really made an effort in the 3rd to get ball in hand and run at us. But they were discombobulated and it came to nothing. All their guys were at the ball, not holding a structure further up.

Ball moves quicker through the air, key for us is turning and going for the quick option. 3-4 quick passes and the ball is gone beyond the zone without the defence really knowing what’s happened.

That is what Bomber wants us to do. That’s what the best sides do that we don’t always do. Decisive movement. Needs a lot of concentration from everyone in the area, it is starting to come together.

It's interesting because I had felt we had until recently really lacked anyone who could run and bounce the ball and it had been hurting us.
There was a time there where we were having no bounces. I think Colyer and zmerret have really began to change that. they pose a that out the bacj and the risk of letting them out the back has meant sides have had to defend us a little differently.
A guy like Colter you have to play goal side because you will not catch him if he gets behind you. This means he has space to lead up. Ditto zmerret.
Once you get a few guys like that it changes the level of congestion in the middle that you are looking at on transition. Consequently we are moving the ball quicker to guys leading into space.
I also think the guys now just have more trust in each other and are playing on with confidence knowing someone will be giving them a 45.
It really has been pronounced since the crows game that we playing on more and more and the victories are feeding the confidence.
The other big thing that has come out of the pies and port game is the defensive communication and disciple. We are now so much quicker to set up defensively at stoppages and slow plays. The players are really demanding it from each other.
Lid off is I think what I am looking for
