Re: Baldwin they might just be trying something different or we might have a few defenders not playing in today’s match sim.

Depending on how they view Voss though it’s conceivable that Baldwin could be a fair way down the pecking order currently in terms of key forwards/3rd tall fwds.

2MP
Weideman
Jones
Stringer
2nd ruck - Phillips/Bryan or Draper fwd
Voss
Baldwin

Whereas with Reid, Cox and Stewart injured already, perhaps they feel it’s worth having a contingency plan by training up Baldwin a little bit as a defender to be adaptable enough to play there at a pinch.

Merrett roves a high ball to the square and goals. Hind getting a fair bit of it from half back. The Hurley kick out strategy is on repeat. They’ve hit the sheds for a half time break.

Hobbs isn’t playing - it’s another player wearing his jumper. Maybe a vfl player. Voss has been good. Biggest surprise for me is the first half dominance of the red team which wasn’t our A Team. Walla looking good as far as fitness and repeat efforts are concerned. Menzie fantastic. I also disagree with comments on Draper - I feel like Phillips has beaten him today. Had him in my SuperCoach team - will be taking him out based on today. He’ll probably end up back in there before season kicks off.

Hind was great as well.

Thanks Jim, you’re right re Hobbs. Not sure who is wearing eight.

Baldwin playing on 2MP is the most interesting takeaway for me so far. He has definitely held his own, and there have been quite a few contests.

What Baldwin does well is hold his ground and protect the drop zone. He also competes in all scenarios.

Damn. Are they going to be uploading the video of the game like they did last year? Was really good to get an early look at Nic Martin.

Thanks to all reporters today.

But Blitz told me Hobbs was dead (and then extrapolated that to rants about what that indicated about the club)!

EDIT:

He dead. Club stuffed.

Hopefully it’s just a learning experience for Baldwin.

Surely we aren’t going to give up on him as a forward already.

Baldwin has a better chance of making it as a forward than weideman.

Chuck Weideman back to defence

He mightn’t be dead but he ain’t playing.
Rants still stand. Play on.

As Jim pointed out, I was mistaken. A similar sized player is wearing number 8. Hobbs not out there.

Baldwin down back is a weird one when Voss has far more exposed junior form as a defender and could argue that’s his best spot aswell.

I reckon they want him to follow Wrighty around as a learning experience.

Might be Jack Cleaver. Train-on WA kid.

If anyone needs help on their leading patterns as a forward I’d also argue that player is Voss, maybe Baldwin wanted the chance aswell :man_shrugging:

I’m pretty heartened that Jones seems to be performing ok today and in recent match sims after so long injured and an interrupted preseason. He’s a very important player for us.
