Training - 27th Feb

My concern, it takes them until the week of their final honour to experiment with the move. Concerns me in that it suggests they’re really concerned about their forward line structure and function and how it’s impacting other structural areas (ground defence, f50 pressure etc). My question is, why has it taken until now to look at it, if they do? It doesn’t fill me with confidence they’re confident in the forward line and the structures of the team broadly.

it’s plainly a reaction to how totally dysfunctional the forward line was vs the Saints and concerns held for the availability of other key forwards

Lav is no world beater, but you can depend on him to compete for every ball. You can not say that about a couple of our other forward options.

He’s also strong and won’t be pushed around as easily.

Hunter would have got plenty of opportunities this year had he kept fit. That one sucks.

If we are really going to rely on lav ( who is a bang average)up forward until caddy is healthy, it just shows once again how bad our list management was at the end of last year in keeping Jones and Weed on the list

At least concerns about the forwards in the short term. Jones needs continuity, it’s unreasonable and unrealistic to expect him to become and influential forward we envisage in the short term. Wright and Stringers frailty along with the fact we don’t have effective small forwards or defensive traits highlight the reason for late experiments. Its an opportunity for Laverde, but it also highlights concerns around their confidence in the structure.

No, I hate Jones and weid being spoken of as in the same basket, Jones may come good, he’s shown glimpses , weid seems contact adverse and I don’t think that will change unfortunately.

Weideman has shown far more than Jones.

It just happens very very rarely.

Jones has shown two-fifths of f*ck all.

weed had dees fans absolutely frothing after his performance in the 2018 elimination final vs geelong. but by the time they cleared him he was nothing more than a joke to them.

Doesn’t seem like Lav played a lot of football in defence as a junior.

It’s standard Essendon development I guess, recruit a player and run him somewhere else.

Considering Weid has been in the system longer, you would expect more.

Lets be honest, neither are much chop!

It’s not like everyone didn’t know that we needed another quality forward. But we needed a quality defender more. We could also do with a gun mid. There wasn’t much available on the forward front.
But I agree, Jones and Wied should be off our list.

Haha, come on dude.

??? We played him forward and a bit midfield and he kept being injured until he didnt look like he was ever going to make it. Then Rutten tried him in defence and he came good.

How many times has Jones kicked 4+ goals in a game?

They’re both better than Voss. Didn’t need Voss with Caddy. Weid is there if Wright goes down. He was ok in that role early last year. His leading patterns are good. Jones is a shot in the dark at best.

Play Caddy when fit. Until then, get swingman into LAV
