Jamarra Ugle-Hagan over Ben King
Needs more Davey at CHF
Hey mate what were your thoughts on the Davey twins?
Love that we are going hard and physical at training.
while it’s nice that we play an attacking brand of footy i would also like us to be ferocious at the ball and man sick of sides bullying us its time we dish it back.
It’s a bit too early to tell. They were inside for a fair bit today, then went off and did some skills work with the JHA group before finishing early, they didn’t do too much with the main group.
We’ll get a better idea in the coming weeks.
I took my young lad down to Tullamarine today and caught the last hour or so of training.
The highlight for me today was an interaction between Rance (whose hugely muscled physique impressed both myself, my son and the gent next to me who commented on it) and one of the watchers. There was a session of snapshots at the goal and when Rance came close to the fence the fan took the opportunity to ask why Rance had demanded the players conform to a certain tactic. Without blinking an eye Rance went on to explain the play that had happened and how he needed the players to place themselves so they felt connected. It was refreshingly open and a few of us took great interest in the conversation.
Like others I felt the session was willing, physically and wondered at the lack of leading. At one point the ball was bombed into the goal square and Hind (as part of the defensive team) talked loudly about “that’s just where we want it”. All the tall forwards hung back towards the goal including Draper a couple of times. Seemed to me that they were deliberately setting up a pack mark scenario, Stewart did well on Wright. But the way the ball was just belted in, he was always going to. The session was about rehearsing that scenario for the back in my opinion.
Obviously Francis is training as a forward at the moment. Baldwin is a big unit.
If people think Tippa was looking better today then he is coming from a lower base than I thought. I didn’t think he looked particularly fit.
Welcome to the madhouse @Jayeffsee
Great first post!
If he didn’t already have me at cacophony, he would have at jabbawocky.
Great post. Thanks for the report.
Your thought about this being a defender focused drill fits well. When I was there a couple of weeks ago the forwards were constantly making repeat leads.
Thanks all for the match reports.
It sounds like were enacting the Baldwin plan. Clear the 50 out and bomb it long and watch Big Boi Baldwin out mark 6 defenders in the goal square. I like!
l am not worried that the forwards were not leading. That will become the focus of other sessions. This set up was to cover when the opposition bomb it in long, and for how the defence cover it.
Thanks mate appreciate it!

Thanks for all the reports Nackers.
What height would you say Alex Hird is these days?
Don’t be a drip @Fairybread. Enjoy the literary style of reporting by these learned reporters. Nothing wrong with embellishing their reports with a bit of humor and classic English prose.
Perhaps, instead of the Miles Franklin, you’d prefer your training reports as the Archibald instead.
I want interpretive dance!
I think we just created a “Describe Essendon/Essington through art” thread.
Miles Franklin winner
