Training report - Thursday 14 January 2021

Thanks @nackers.

Quality report as always. Really appreciated.

Looks like we have a couple of good Academy types coming through over the next few years. Loving the Misiti hype!

Still lid on.

For our new forward structure we don’t need to replace Joey with another potential superstar, rather we need 6 genuine goal kicking targets who work as a unit.
For 2021 we should be trialling 2 or 3 of the younger players - eg jones, cahill, perkins maybe francis - in the forward line to find the best mix for 2022 & beyond.

Some questions for you:

“who will be taking the kickouts”

“have we developed a kick out strategy”

“what was the biggest thing you learnt coaching last year”

“who out of the draftees are you thinking/expecting to play significant games”

There was quite a large modified group today, nothing necessarily to worry about they may just be monitoring loads after a big session on Tuesday.

How closely were they monitoring Cox’s load?

Gone from being an excited Cox to a flop. The story of my life.

How closely were they monitoring Cox’s load?

Cox probably knew he had an audience and was taking the pis$.

The little bonus and the bonus could be the replacement half back flankers

Langford is defintiely the pre-season king. Always dominates pre-season, last year we saw a glimpse he took a bit of it into the season, i’m really expecting him to start dominating games. I think if we commit to playing him on a wing he could absolutely have an AA squad type of year. His running seems at the real elite level.

@nackers would love your insight into Merrett and how he’s travelling? How’s his leadership? How’s his interaction with the other players, particularly without Raz and Joey there?

Don’t need them anymore:

Really far B: Hind Hooker Tippa
B: BZT Cox Johnson
HB: Ridley Hurley Francis
HHB: Redman Reid Ambrose
HHHB: Gleeson Brand Guelfi

McBride doesn’t get a game but I’ve managed to squeeze the rest of them in.

Of the talls Wright, Jones and Bryan with Draper drifting down too. I think Cox, Reid, Brand and Eyre were in a different group at this stage.

It’s a bit hard to tell yet as we haven’t seen too much inside work from him or anyone else for that matter yet, and we know he wants to play in the inside. He wont be as strong at this stage as a Selwood, Dangerfield or Martin type he seems more outside at the moment but that may vhange the more we see of him. But he’s pretty competent at everything, good hands, disposal, balance, composure and can take a tackle.

Yes Cotchin is probably a fairly good comparison, although he’s not as solidly built at this stage.

Probably to early still to see just how well players are tracking but does Francis seem to be gaining in confidence yet or is he still lacking in presence? For a player with so much ability it would be great to see him make a big step this year.

At AFL level his kicking can be a little hit and miss but when he was confident and player good footy at VFL level his kicking was sublime at times. I really want him to make it.

I know @CJohns is a big rap for Merrett this year compared to others, but personally I haven’t seen to much different in either the way he trains or his interaction with other players, to me he’s been his normal professional self.

I think I’m much more positive about Francis than most on here and still believe he will make it, but apart from returning in the best condition he’s been in he hasn’t really stood out so far, he’s been at a much more consistent level without the real highs or lows.

The same 4 over and over again.
