Clearly a joke. I type it in lots of threads.

You need to give up on your boy toy Menzies. I ran him out of town, and the horse he rode in on.

Merrett was the safest thing since day one.

I still remember Jobe saying after day one of pre-season “how did this kid drop to pick 26?”

That is my real major worry for us this year, we are going to get absolutely torched by small forwards this year.

My big worries:

  1. We will be torched by teams with big blokes that run through the guts eg Western Bulldogs
  2. We will be torched by teams with good small forwards
  3. We will be torched by teams with pace
  4. We will be torched by teams with competent backlines

But apart from that I reckon we will go ok :joy:

ha - but seriously, I wonder how we are going to go this year when we start playing the other teams?

And importantly how the game plan and our form holds up through the season?

It would be a big positive if we managed to be consistent and finished the season strongly. Two areas we have struggled with for some time.

I think people will be surprised by how few wins we get.

All I want to see is some of the kids getting consistent games this year.

I doubt there would be anyone here who will be surprised how few wins we get.
If we get more than 6 half of blitz would take that as a better than expected season (based on the mood of this place for the past 6 months)

Nah man.
14 wins.

As long as we play the kids, I would even be happy with 4 wins.

I tend to agree. Not to mention the lack of small forward options at the other end, with the exception of Walla.

And now it seems as though we’re robbing Peter to pay Paul, with Cahill apparently spending most of his time training as a defender this pre-season (despite being drafted as a forward).

Perhaps Smith and Snelling will spend more time up front but either way, we still really lack any reliable depth whatsoever with our small forwards/defenders.

At least we seem to be exploring the right options with the additional guys we have training with us - hopefully we can find another Guelfi/Snelling who is capable and ready to go if needed.

Quarters?

That’s also true for tall forwards, tall defenders, outside mids, inside mids and rucks.

A journey into the unknown, this year.

True. In those other positions, if feels like we at least have more unproven options though.

Outside of a fairly typical Best 22, I’m not sure who the small forward/defenders options are, other than Cahill.

It’s why I think blokes like Hind & Guelfi will see plenty of senior footy this year.

I think it’ll start with Redman/Ridley/Heppell/Hind as the 4 small/medium backs in the 22.

Then Guelfi/Smith/Gleek/??

Probably short by 1.

If we get a mature age pick before the season, sorts it out.

Yeah fair, probably more of an issue at the other end (especially if Smith stays in the backline).

We’ll no doubt see a lot of Parish/Caldwell types resting in a forward pocket this year - hopefully Perkins comes on, even though he’s a different type of player. I’d forgotten about Johnson as well, although I’m not sure where he’s at with his recovery (let alone where they plan to use him).

Fingers crossed we find another 1-2 gems, whether it be Waterman or whoever.
