Training Session Wednesday 24January 2024

He has a few insurmountable weaknesses. He isn’t physical by nature, that spells big problems if you’re a key forward, irrespective of your strengths. He also doesn’t hold marks. He’s been in the system about 8-9 years, it those innate weaknesses will always surface in games. It’s just not going to come together for him unfortunately, I don’t think it actually can.

It also doesn’t spell key forward. It was a ruckman breaking from the centre square.

So he’s only a lumbering giant if he runs in the opposite direction to get the ball?

Got it

If you think playing ruck and playing full forward are the same thing, I suggest you start following another game.

I’ve got the “fill space” bit well covered. It’s the whole running and footying thing where I fall down.

There has been some training reports, there was match sim yesterday.

I am against the majority but I think Weidemen was hard done by the coaches by the time he lost confidence, he was carrying his Achilles problem last 8 games got up for every game in that period then was sent back to VFL as a defender. a
. He played a crucial role when Wright was out injured and was effective in the first 10 rounds creating space, engaging his opponent and taking his opponent to areas where opposition had to respect him cause he was in good position. He then lost confidence and his radar was off by round 8/9z Unfortunately the lack of strength in the marking contest has always been his issue.

His work rate is one of the best at our club and actually many of defenders at training struggle to stay with him as he leads long but also angles his leads, double backs and creates panic in the defenders. These nuances as a forward can’t be taught. He has some great traits it’s the coaches area of work to get the best out of the players, I think he is a better AFL footballer than Jones and I’d rather Weidy than Jones’ flashy inconsistent efforts.
It’s just like my job training junior athletes in the APS system. A coaches aim is to strengthen the area that makes them unique and work on the weakness area to build confidence.

Really, first I’m hearing, if true it’s just another indictment on Brad’s coaching for selecting another injured player.

Jones kicked more goals in his first year (which has been his only injury free one to date) than Weidman ever has.
I cannot understand how anyone could rate Sam over him.

Those are all the reasons why Melbourne kept him on their list for so long. He has all the attributes to be a great player.

The problem is that he doesn’t use them in real games.

Anyone know if there’s training this Saturday? Will be driving through.

Don’t say that.

Otherwise we’ll need a full Benny40 training assessment.

Easiest way to build your like count on Blitz is post a training report.

I’m going to go to training but refuse to post a report unless you dudes pay outrageous bribes. You boys can keep your likes.

Anything on today?

Are the boys training this morning?

I disagree with a fair amount of that, but like The Weid l can’t be bothered going into any great depth to refute it. You did however leave out one important aspect of his game, he is soft.
