a player in our own image…

I would have been great at that role.

True. Either way, I’d rather see Jones in that forward line somehow and if this is so, with Wright and Caddy there, Weed becomes depth at best.

Reid is better than ‘good’ by foot, it will be a real weapon for us.

It’s one thing to be technically a good kick and another to use it as a weapon. Ridley is a prime example of a good kick but plays it too safe.

I had pretty high hopes for Hunter coming on pretty quickly and emerging as a viable AFL option given his age, size and the signs he’d shown in the WAFL and VFL. But with him no longer a part of this campaign, the chances are that Weed does end up playing a bit of footy this year. Which doesn’t thrill me. But it’s a long campaign and there is typically a fair bit of attrition.

Weid like many others is a confidence player. At his best he can be serviceable, but he simply doesn’t play at his best often enough.

Do you have an alarm that goes off on your computer whenever someone posts something even moderately positive?

Yes, I despise people being positive.

I was referring to the fact I thought it might provide him the confidence to get going.
Iam not a fan of Weid but five goals against the reigning premier is a good effort, also a bit of a weird take that because they weren’t kicked from contested marks means they weren’t any good that’s like saying Martin’s five on debut was no good because he got a few cheapies out the back.
Either way though he’s ok the have as depth now that Hunter went down

The comment in regards to Wright and Draper training leads from the square worries me a bit, if we are planning of having 2 lumbering giants deep while another(Goldy) takes the ruck, then I’m not sure about that.

It might work 20% of the time but I can see good teams exploiting that size more often than not.

Ide say they train to cover different scenarious depending on what team need at the time… injury, suspensions, abductions, whatever, so is it possible at times Drapes and 2mp both up forward, absolutely. Might not be Rd 1, or ever but at least not alien (see what i did there?)

I agree I personally think if Goldie has been ahead this preseason we should start the year with one ruck and the extra forward in caddy or jones

Project blue beam bro.

To your point I agree it’s ok to have it in the back pocket, I guess I’m coming from a position where the 2 big ruck set up is average and rarely an advantage (IMO), then on top of that your full forward is also big ruck size, mobility is my concern.

The game gets more uncontested and faster every year especially from half back, an oversized forward line doesn’t fill me with confidence.

He borrows it from Cox.

He’s a very frustrating player, as any Melbourne supporter will tell you.

He plays the occasional pretty good game, and by occasional I mean two or 3 times a season. And the games are only pretty good, not great. The rest of the time he’s not in the play when he needs to be, he doesn’t take marks he should take, and he misses any shots at goal he happens to get.

Melbourne gave him away for a reason. Very occasionally a player like that will turn it all around at a new club, but what we saw last year was that Weed is not one of those players.

Blue Beam, yes!

I dont think we’ll see this as common practice with the big boys, they could just be both doing drill at same time for practice not necessarily game play, but i wasnt there so ill get back in my box.

Scottie out.

Has anyone been to training in the last week, or haven’t we trained?

This doesn’t scream lumbering giant to me.

Well you do have a good excuse.
