No but what has Jones done to make him an automatic selection every week? he needs to start showing signs he’s not a first year player anymore needs to get some mongrel and agression in his play

Leading into Worsfold’s 5th season, the club spent 4 months pumping up their own tires for the upcoming season. We had just made finals. The Supporters had signed up early in droves and the expectations were very high.
Then a week before the season, Worsfold comes out and says that the supporters should lower their expectations and be patient.
That just shows you what an absolute basketcase the club was in. From the marketing team, to the Head coach. Absolute pathetic club.

Anyone who thinks weid is better than Jones hasn’t watched the dees for the past few years.
Weid only averaged 2 goals a game in the vfl and his team were winning by 10 goals every week.
Lost 1 game for the season.
If he was a decent afl forward he would’ve been averaging 5 a game

And i reckon it would have deflated the players hearing that. The players that pre season where hyped and ready to attack the next year and then the club and coach comes out preaching we should be patient on the eve of the season

He looked ready to me when we played Hawthorn in 2021 in Tasmania and he took 8 marks, 5 of which were contested.
He should be persevered with in the ones unless his form drops dramatically.

Weideman …. played the final month of the VFL as a permanent ruckman, returning to the position he played at Vermont in the Eastern Football League until his bottom-age season with the Eastern Ranges.The Whitefriars College product amassed 35 hitouts and 18 disposals against Southport in Casey’s Grand Final win at Ikon Park, after 37 hitouts and 14 touches in the preliminary final win over Brisbane. Life in red and black is expected to be divided between playing inside 50 alongside Wright and backing up Sam Draper in the ruck.
“The month I did have in the VFL playing as a permanent ruck, I took a lot of confidence out of that,” he said.
“I feel like if I can get that going at AFL level, it just adds another string to my bow. I think at Essendon I can play that second ruck role and get around the ball in the midfield while being a key forward. I’d love to play both those roles.”
Maybe Weideman has been playing with expectation of him being a top kpf when really all along he was really just a fwd/ruck
We will inevitably find out as that’s what we’ve got him in to do
Harry has a lot of work to do to get fit and will need to rely on us choosing to play 3 talls with him that preferred 3rd option over Baldwin/Voss etc. Or be demanding of a spot form wise such that we are happy to return Wright to a fwd/ruck role, unlikely.

Weid has a AFL body ready to play 2nd tall role that Jones Struggled with last year.
Jones went ok when he had Hooker and Wright, Similar to Stewart went ok when he had Hooker and Daniher,
Weideman is impressing this preseason at the club.

Yes Wedieman didnt star for Dees - but I think we back him in for the first half of the year and see what he delivers.

I think he will really have to earn his spot in the ones. Weed plays second ruck and forward - Jones isn’t advanced enough just to be picked only as a forward……he’s developing and that will continue

Has Weidemann shown anything in the ruck or it is just a tall thing?
Jones has previously shown that he was handy in the ruck, so has 2MP, and long term I can see Cox providing an option as a 2nd ruckman a la Westoff or a super tall Grigg. With the new sub rules I can see us trying to play two rucks. I am expecting a lot of experimentation with our forward and rucking set ups in 2023.
