That accom sounds great, I bet the meal will be fantastic. Which city?

Even if somewhere like Kamakura or Azza’s rec. feels a bit far, Yokohama is a good change-up for a cruisier day trip, with its waterfront and Chinatown. You’re spoiled for choice. Nikko is another great bigger day trip from Tokyo.

Hakone. The other half really wanted to go down there.

Going to do some Yokohama time after checking out Kumakara I think.

Nikko is on my list. Had plans a few years back but had to cancel due to a typhoon hitting Tokyo and had to stay in Okinawa a few extra days.

Which was a struggle given how unappealing Okinawa is haha.

Did Emirates cancel it and offer any options or refund only?

We did a pretty cool day-trip from Tokyo to Hakone, 15 years ago. Booked it through the Tourist Information Centre at one of the main train stations (HakonePass from Shinjuku TIC I think…) Travelled on two or three different gauge trains and a ropeway to get there, took in the volcanic areas, boat ride across the lake, visited the shrines, open air museum etc. Sadly Fuji-san was shrouded in mist on the day. I’m sure Klook, Getyourguide etc. offer the same thing these days.

The football season here is the best time to travel!

I am off to the Svalvard Islands amongst other northern places in May so I’ll be spared 4 weeks of watching Essendon.

With luck, the internet won’t work there.!

Ain’t that the truth… to think that once upon a time I avoided travel during the season because I’d miss games… Silly me…

We’re off to Borneo in June-July. We’re doing a few days in wilderness areas, where internet will likely be negligible (whether that’s for reasons of coverage or conservation of phone battery) . Ideally, once we’re back in range I’ll discover that Brilliant Brad has been given The Chaminda…

Food tour? Just go anywhere, it’s all good.

If you are doing an overnighter near fuji, get a ryokan that includes dinner. Generally will be a ten course traditional meal all made with local ingredients. You won’t know what most of it is, or how to eat it, but the hosts will always be happy to help and find it amusing when you have no idea.

With cycling too be aware the Shinkansen requires you to book a place for your bike. Also never seen a bike on a local train cause I think that’s not allowed.

That looks awesome. Will add it to Japan trip no.2.

No, I really do. Tropical getaway, great traditional music, food, beaches, vibe, feels like another country for this city slicker.
