Did you book your cherry blossom viewing spot yet?
I think Nara is stunning and I always tell visitors to go there. Nara Park with its deer and the walk up to Todai-ji and the giant Buddha is spectacular. Easy day trip from Kyoto.
The tree in my front garden comes free ![]()
I’ll be in Melbourne, so probably just catch the end of it this year.
Sensoji (red lantern) in Tokyo is a must for a first timer (has a temple and all the shopping souvenirs you can handle). You can then catch the ferry for a river cruise which ends at a Japanese garden.
Think we’re a bit late for the cherry blossoms
Mt Fuji.
Forget the photos. In person it blows you away.
What time of year you thinking?
Plan is for Sept to early Oct
I will take you up on that. Thanks
Never been in September. End of typhoon season. October you start to see the maples change colours.
Pick any major park and you’ll see that.
We are planning to see the MotoGP on Oct 1st so working the trip around that.
Is that Suzuka?
Mobility Resort Motegi - will probably stay in Utsunomiya
If you’re out that way may as well see Nikko. @theDJR I think was the last blitzer to visit there.
Will check it out. Quick google peek looks beautiful.
Japan is just awesome. This is my fifth trip here having spent over eight months here.
When I retire I will buy a small house here and split winters between Melbourne and Tokyo.
Wow. Sounds amazing
Do you ever hire a car ?
I have one right now. Driving is interesting. You need a good navigator. Not all streets look like a street!
Japan is very strict on following rules, until they see a speed limit!
All road signs also come in English but not knowing the town name inbetween where you are heading doesn’t always help. Then you need to know Akasaka isn’t Asakusa. So thus why a navigator with google maps helps a lot.
We tend to rent with Toyota rent a car as well. Have used a few other but Toyota is easiest and least fussy over scratches and stuff. Petrol stations here are all still manned!
